Title: 4106 Rear Engine Lid - Modify for Jakes??
Post by: OneLapper on July 19, 2010, 12:47:46 PM
Can anyone post a picture of what they have done to the engine lid to clear the tall valve covers needed when you install Jake Brakes on a 4106??

Thanks!

I have the same situation with my AMGeneral transit.  When I installed my Jakes, I got the one piece aluminum valve cover.  I simply cut out the existing door cover and let the valve cover be exposed.  I painted the valve cover gray to match my bus.  I like the look.  If you do use the aluminum valve cover, you could have it polished-that would look good to.  A side line to this is the now extra hole in the engine hatch for the valve cover makes for more air circulation.  Good Luck, TomC

Check with R&M fiberglas, I believe they make a tailgate with a bump in it just for this purpose.

On a Buffalo, I used the leftover Al skin from the windows cutout and fabricated, OK so I cut and fit but no welding, a bump to cover the engine and keep the rear cover whole. When the bump was welded I riveted it into place. Looked fine when painted with the rest of the bus.

TomC,

Did you use the block off plates for the vapor seperator and oil fill neck?  I've been waiting weeks for them, supposedly the DD dealer can still get them but I haven't seen them yet!!

I know I have to cut an opening in the door and I like the idea of just leaving a hole.  If I trim it out closely it might be less noticeable than boxed bump-out.

Thanks guys!

Mark
