Title: Another thing to add to the pre-trip list
Post by: kyle4501 on July 08, 2010, 06:18:50 AM
Check your rig for dead critters once in a while & especially daily for the week prior to departure, especially if you don't want THAT fragrance to be your constant companion for the duration of the trip (you may need a few days to air it out & let the air freshener & whatever to do their thing).

I've been using the fantastic fan automatic vents for several years now & dad for over 15 years prior to that. Never gave them a second thought except for cleaning.
Yesterday I had to get something out of the camper (still unpacking from the 4th weekend trip), & I noticed a faint dead animal smell. Then I noticed it was warmer than it should be & the fan wasn't running. After a little looking, I found the culprit. A small bird got past the fan blades & was trapped between the fan blades & screen. Yuck! I didn't realize there were so many feathers on a tiny bird! Those tiny down feathers just float around like dust!  :(  I don't know if I'll ever get them all out!

Looks like I'll need to fashion a screen above the fan blade to keep the critters out. . . .

Great post Kyle, reminds me of the same type of story I heard this weekend about little kids wanting to bring some starfish home from Maine to Kansas.  After a few day there was no way to get rid of that smell.
