Reading a topic on lead sheeting that Brian Diehl had, made me to think just how much weight have I added to this bus? I figure after stripping it down to bare chassis and going back the siding I used was about twice the weight that came off. Then the generator probably added 600 lbs. Cutting out the old rusted steel and replacing it with new probably wasn't much of an increase. Full water tanks could end up being the most addition! The Inverter was an easy 100 lbs. Four additional battery's at 100 lbs +. The ceiling steel structure probably added another 300lbs( I used light weight tube here). Three heat pumps @100 lb each. This is starting to add up. I did remove all of the over the road AC system and assorted plumbing, fan's! That AC compressor alone weighed about 200 lbs. I think I scraped 200 lbs of road grease and grime from the chassis! I'm sure I've increased the weight more than I'm admitting. Did any one keep track while they were building their bus?
From stripped to fully equipped with my wife and I in the bus with full tanks, 4,000lbs. Good Luck, TomC
My bus weighed in at right around 36,000 lbs right after I bought it with only about 8 pairs of seats. It weighed closer to 38,000 lbs when I had it weighed last year with the conversion usable and pretty much done.
I removed at least a ton of debris and scrap metal during the stripping process.
I was told that the bus was designed from empty weight to carry 47 passangers and luggage the live weight was figured at 250lb each to allow for luggage and different size people...My 89 prevost scalled 36000 total after completion..including 2 slides granite floors, couter tops tanks gen full feul ready to go out;25000 rear and 11000 front..I figure thats about 4000 lbs less than a loaded passanger bus like it.
My bus has gone from 26,500 lbs completely gutted to 30,500 lbs with a full load of fuel, water, and vacation "stuff" for 3 weeks for a family of 4. I do not have a diesel generator, just a small honda 2000i. Since this weight ticket last year I have added 100 lbs or so of wood for the additional cabinetry I have added.
The granite floors and counter tops is when the weight goes through the roof along with a good size battery bank some of these coaches have 8-8D AGM batteries heavy jokers it will add up on a top notch conversion like you are building.
good luck
My bus went from 22,000 lbs. stripped out to 32,500 lbs. with full load of fuel, water and supplies. Which gives me a very comfortable 7,500 lbs before I get to GVW. I have granite counter tops, ceramic floor and even have one wall the TV is mounted in that is 2x6 construction. ( I think that's the same as a S&S would have. lol). Wilbur
We added 20,000 lbs fully loaded, from just under 14 tons to just under 24 tons.
I broke this down item-by-item in this post, back when we went through this whole discussion last time:

On my 85 Prevost I went from 26,000lbs. stripped to 39,700 fully loaded.

Ahoy, Muddog,
My -01 Eagle -- when I first drove it with a 6v-92/ Allison and essentially nothing inside but the driver's seat and 3/4" plywood floor -- no wall covering -- plus near empty fuel tanks weighed 21,200 lbs. Now, near complete (with a Cummins M-11 / RR 10 spd -- ~~same weight) is all up full at 31,700 lb. Includes 2800 lbs fluids.
I believe that my Eagle is one of the lighter ones around. No marble floors or such. I'll probably add less than another 1000 lbs.
Enjoy /s/ Bob
Our 05 Eagle gained about 12,000 lbs-went from a Corvette to a crew cab dual wheel 4x4 in the handling department. And thats after adding 5' of length, 7 3/8" width with slide and the genset.

An interesting question indeed. But 40 + passengers at a generous estimate of 200 lbs apiece is 8000 lbs so I doubt most of us ever get too that. I've never weighed mine. I guess if it gets too heavy I'll have to leave the wife at home!! :D She doesn't weigh much but she sure drags a lot of crap along!!!
Scott, that's how I got into bussing........trying to decide whether I needed an 18 wheeler or motorhome to cart the wife and her "stuff" around!
Now with my truck conversion, I weigh in at 28,000lbs with the box mounted but nothing in it yet. With 12,000lb in front and 34,000lb allowed in back (38,000lb rated), I can go to 46,000lbs. That leaves 18,000lbs. I'm figuring about 5,000lb, plus another 3,000lb for the car for a total of 36,000lbs. Will be curious to see how close I come. Good Luck, TomC
I have a 4106 that weighs 26700 converted and ready for the road. I didn't weigh it before I started. I wonder if any of you guys no what they weigh with all the seats?

My already converted Liberty Shorty Prevost, is a bit of a porker. I filled up both the water tank and fuel tank, and she came in at 32540 lbs, 12240 on the front. Have one bay totally empty.

PS when I filled my fuel tank the gauge was a touch over empty, and I had 90 out of 200 gallons left, hope the other gauges are a bit more accurate.

I would not be surprised if your fuel sender is bad. I had the same issue with having lots of fuel on empty when I got my bus. I pulled the fuel sender and it was completely rusted up. No wonder it did not work.
My bus had been stored for probably three years with a 1/3 full tank so I'm sure condensation rusted it up. I haven't seemed to have any water in fuel issues since then. I do keep the tank full now.
what is the stock weight of a 4106? i have looked all through da book and no numbers. i weigh in at 24,444 lbs
I can give you the numbers for a 4108. Empty stripped less than 19K. Actual weight was 19,720 lbs with the refrigerator, aluminum skin and 1.5"X 1/8" steel tubing for structural support. I took all the windows out and re-skinned with the 0.080" Al attached to the steel tubing runs both top and bottom of the window area. I figure that additional weight over empty at 800-900 lbs.
Finished weight: 2 adults, 2 teenage girls and dog, full water125 Gals, full fuel 185 gals and the bays pretty full of stuff (6 8D's, bicycles, grill propane bottles, chairs etc) weighed in at 28,400 lbs.
The MCI is as yet unweighted. I'm figuring on 31 to 33,000 lbs. More storage area equals more stuff carried.
