Just returned from 1500 mile trip in my MCI 7 with 8V92 and Allsion 740 Trans. Burnt 2 and a half gallons of oil and very heavy smoke on exceleration and other times. Bus ran great and no problems except this. Have made this same trip to Walsenburg, CO and never went through over two quarts of oil. Any suggestions? and does any one know of the best shop in Phoenix, AZ to have it checked out and also the turbo and jakes?
Thanks
ED
Call Baker in Higley 1-480-988-1187 see if he works on buses any longer if not he will know of a good shop
good luck
Sounds like worn rings/liners. Take an oil sample; you might have dirt in there. If so, you'll need to kit the engine. Williams has a branch in Phoenix.

two problems mught not be related...black smoke is to much fuel or not enought air...oil smoke is normaly blue gray..yes one can effect other..just a thought..are you getting oil out your drains at a idle?
Possibly a plugged up air filter?
Pull the exhaust at the turbo, if its oily there is a very good chance the turbo seals are gone. Good luck

You don't have to pull the turbo to check it. Remove the clamp on the exhaust side and swing away the pipe so you can grab the impeller of the turbo and wiggle it. It should have very little slop, if is is reasonably tight it is not the culprit.
15 min. project.
Just installed a new turbo for a friend who had no clue it was failing. Came over with a lower blower gasket leaking and his urbo was so sloppy it was by the grace of God it did not come apart.
Cost of repair 200 bucks for the blower gaskets 1300 for the turbo.
Good luck.
I moved my business from California to Prescott, AZ. I work on bus conversions and am factory certified 2-stroke Detroit mechanic. I'm sure a few people on this board remember me.

Thanks to all. I have it in a local shop who has done work for me before. He is changing the oil, filters(oil and fuel) plus the air filter. I have also put in Lucas diesel treatment, recommended by a good friend who is a mobil diesel mech, newer ones though. No there is no oil leaks under the bus, except the normal detroit marking its ground. Will keep you informed.
Thanks

Great to be back-- thanks for the feedback--

Turns out the air filter was dirtier than I thought also one lead on the jake was off. Had the oil changed, fuel filters changed, air filter cleaned, will get a new one, also found the 12 alternater belt was very cracked, didn't look like it on the out side. Put in Lucas fuel treatment so coming home I put my foot in it and it did not blow black smoke, makes the wife happy as she cleaned the 24 foot box trailer with all the black soot on it. Next I will take it over to Geoff who lives across the mountain and have him check the turbo.
Life is good, ready for the next trip on July 19th.
Again thanks to all who replied.
