good base is planned----all in put apreciated----this is to be the focal point of coach to take attention away from my poor workmanship on other parts....I have cherry and black granite in shop-left over from another project...also have a black marble with gold swirls.

I think I would lay out the patterns to look like area rugs.  Starting with the swirling patterns you have and add the rest around that the be a boarder.  One pattern in the living area and another in the kitchen would be nice.  They don't even have to be the same pattern as long as the boarder patterns matched.  I think the professionals that do this use a caulk style grout between the two materials due to the difference in the expansion in the wood in humid areas.

new idea--I like it----have brass slutter strips to border wood to tile border...I did this between granite squares on 89..gets positive coments....I have tools to cut tile and wood in any pattern..maybe make counter top to cordinate? I put last down with Ge silicon caulk:takes flooring chisle to remove and doesn't come up in one piece...have front slide could center pattern on it...

Run the hardwood on a 45 and insert diamonds of stone either randomly or in a pattern.

I am putting Marble up the stairs and in the cockpit on ours and I'm right in the middle of the project now.

I have some photos I need to learn how to navigate this site though. I have done 4 different installs for friends. Use 1/4 in backer board on the stair treads it is plenty stiff without using the 1/2 in there and works better in that app.

We want tigerwood in ours and I am thinking of an an elongated compass medallion with maple and ebony wood for the center of the floor

Why not simply lay out a few ideas on the floor until you do something you like and install it. YOUR opinion is the most important.

You can build your wood flooring on a piece of 1/4"luan board in your driveway. then you can cut your designs in it with a jigsaw. then lay it in the bus as a floating floor. Then cut your tiles to fit your shapes if you are going in sections of wood then tile. It makes it easier to cut clean curvy lines in the wood. it will look clean like a puzzle if tile was removed.
