Title: ceiling help
Post by: txjeff on June 17, 2010, 09:36:51 AM
The PO installed the stretched vinyl in the ceiling of the bus. Over time the material has started to sag and is extremely dirty. Has anyone tried to clean and restretch this type of ceiling or would it be easier to replace it with something else? One thought was to glue it with the contact adhesive for car headliners....any thoughts, suggestions, experiences ??

easy clean,do mine all of time....can tighten or one possibility to create a new look would be to use vinyl covered buttons to give a tufting look..I did on a 12 inch grid..use snaps with screws thru ceiling material to backing..then covered buttons just snap over to cover snaps up....Bob

I pulled mine down until I could put new adhesive on it then stuck it back up.  It was a pain in the neck getting it back up.  It has held for 6 months.

For what it's worth I've tried quite a few headliner adhesives and never got much to stick for very long.  Instead of using screws I ended up using a lot of 1/2" diameter by 3/8" thick supermagnets!  They look like buttons, give a nice quilted look and stick everything  to the roof just perfectly!  And over the kitchen I can stick all the knives and forks to them... (why you ask?... why not!)

Most buses I've seen have aluminum headliners. Where do you put the magnets?

I had the same question, I ended up pulling the vinyl out last night thinking of replacing it with some kind of wood. Im gonna take this opportunity seal a few leaks and add some insulation.

I think some of the Crown buses have steel roof panels.  Jack
