Title: Check out the exterior of your coach before heading out!
Post by: Dreamscape on June 16, 2010, 04:49:36 PM
I found this today when I was checking for wasp nests and found this!

Clifford suggested I put some plexiglass over it to protect it, now I know the real reason!

Happycamperbrat, I am glad to find out that I am not the only one who has had to put my project on hold for a few weeks to let a mother bear young and then go on their way.  I try to prevent them from doing this but they can build a home overnight when they are in a hurry and it is done before I see them.  I don't have the heart to evict them.  Old softee I would say.

Wish I could do similar for all those animals in the freaking BP oil spill disaster.  Pisses me off.  I hope every dollar BP has screwed us out of over the past 6-7 years now with their fuel prices has to be paid back to everyone who's life in the Gulf Coast area will probably be changed forever now.  BP reap what they sow!!  Now choke on it.

That's funny.  I had a family of mice move into my coach while we were on vacation last year. It didn't turn out as well for them, though.  ::)

Reminds me of a time when I was in college. I was driving my pickup down the street and stopped at a stop light. This great big dog comes out and jumps into the back of the truck.
I wasn't about to try to get him out in the middle of the street. He was bigger than me! So I drove on. About 3 blocks later, I stopped at another stop light. He jumped out and continued
on his way. I guess he was tired, and just wanted a little lift.  :D

Country living is amazing, I have 2 nests in my shop now......and they do pop up overnite!  I have dogs, cats, fish, parrot all living in and around my shop........the cats are indifferent, the dogs are tolerant, the parrot is overbearing, the fish.........are at least quiet!   One cat was the best working buddy I've had (sorry Joe),  this one tortoiseshell kitten adopted me and fast became my shadow, anywhere working on the bus she was there,  welding, grinding you name it......loud noise didn't bother her.  As soon as the door from the house opened she appeared happy, talking as they normally do (tortoiseschell cats are very vocal) she was ready for anything I had planned for that day!  It didn't matter where I worked or whether I crawded into an extremely tight location to weld........she would be right there.....wanting to help!  This being curious eventually was her undoing.........at the wrong place at the wrong time!  That was the neatest cat I've ever seen!...........I miss that little paw batting me from above while I was working!  It's amazing the things you find to enjoy while building a bus!

Since we don't have any outside pets to help me, I have to watch out for other creatures............Rattlesnakes! ;D

Haven't seen any yet but I'm real cautious when I crawl around under the bus. This time of year they could be anywhere! YUK!

I hope you're not expecting it to be big enough by Thanksgiving.

She already raised her youngins and they moved out, but she stayed behind for some reason. Im going to Oregon next week and going to have to move her out unless she is interested in relocating out of state? I am going to move her nest into a bird cage and then leave it there for a couple of days and then move it outside to a sheltered location near where the bus is parked. Hopefully she wont be too angry with me.....

Paul, let me know when you need some lexan.  I have plenty of scraps with the protective wrap still on that I can cut to size for you.

That is very kind of you to offer, I'll keep that in mind. Not sure how much it would cost to ship, maybe not worth the effort. Shoot, why don't you just come to our Texas Bus Roundup and hand it to me? ::)

I've learned the hard way that any creature building a nest in my buildings or machinery will be back next year to do the same along with its offspring.

The end results are not good, it only gets worse.

I remove any nest, babies or eggs.
