Frank,

You think that is high for that bus? I know the market is down but that looks like a pretty decent deal if it is as described.

I was hoping to get about the same for mine, which is older & better in some areas, not as good in others.

'Gus the Bus' is the name of this amazing converted MCI9 - about which which I would love to know more about the engineering aspects of the conversion:

Gus the bus lives in Federal Way Washington south of Seattle.  His owner builder is a PhD in engineering and can learn anything in short order and translate it to "work done".  Rare talent among those with so much brain power, in my professional experience.  He started this project amid scoffing that a MCI9, with its monocoche construction, would not survive a slide.  He installed three.  It is doing very well, last I heard and he has been attending the "Bus In" in Orygun.  Lots of steel seems to have gone into her to retain structural rigidity/strength.  Don't know what the total weight gain was cause I saw it ling before completion.  Slides are operated with hydraulic motors and the pump is electric so the engine doesn't need to be running.  Haven't seen him post on here in a while and I don't recall his board name.

Forgive me if I am about to offend the owner, should he be here, but this bus looks like a death trap to me.

Water tanks, maybe 3/4 ton worth, look to be held down with nylon straps meant for perhaps 800-900 lbs (not to mention those roto-molded tanks are usually supposed to be supported on all sides by plywood.  Generator not properly listed and haphazardly wired with incorrect cabling.  Loose wires coming out of surface-mount electrical boxes.  Improperly vented propane locker (or maybe not vented at all -- I couldn't see any).  No vent hood over the gas stove (or any other visible ventilation).  I would guess there are other issues not visible in the photos.

Besides safety, I'm not fond of the OEM ceiling (and I would guess also not enough insulation in there), the off-set roof airs, and the sideways original coach seats, but that's just a matter of taste.  I would also guess that what happened in 2002 was not a "frame-up rebuild" of the coach (and what does "frame-up" mean on a monocoque?), but perhaps an "in-frame rebuild" of the engine -- two very different concepts.  Lots of rust in the engine bay also does not speak well of mechanical issues and maintenance.

So, yeah, I'd have to say that the asking price is about right, or maybe a tad high for what it is.

JMO, of course, FWIW.  YMMV.

No.  Two different buses with the same (very common) name.

In case it was not clear, my comments pertained to the CraigsList bus in the OP.

Jeremy posted BJ'S bus gus the bus, BJ is a friend of mine and JohnEd he does not have a PHD in engineering he is not even a engineer just a very bright young man with 3 kids that named the bus it  is not finshed on the inside yet he has a 8v71 with a bad 740.The raised  roof is where the overhead trusses are to support the bus for all the slides he has no support under the bus it is totally supported by the roof  and it works
I sent him a 740 for his bus home by Mike Wilson 3 years ago and he has never picked in up yet the last I heard family problems have stopped the progress on his bus Fwiw that is a Mike Wilson paint job nice huh

You are durn tootin that Mike Wilson does awesome paint jobs. I wonder why anybody would use Starjet, when they could use Mike? (Starjet can do decent work, according to Nick B, but I only speak from our experience.)I guess the answer is probably location, and simply whether people know about him or not.

I know who we will probably use when we need our bus repainted....

Thanks for the info and the correction....whats new on either count.  I don't know that I can count BJ a friend but I did spend a day with him and his family.  I can only say that I must have intuited that PhD thing as he did impress the crap out of me and I worked with PhD's and also people with MULTIPLE PhDs and he had the same feel to him.  During my work on the USNS Wheeling I was told that every man in the room had at least one PhD and that half the room had two and a few had three Dictatorial credentials...  "The Stanford Crew", as it was.  That makes me exactly the same guy that worked with sailors with no credentials.  He was a consultant to Boeing when we met.

Very sorry to hear that he has been having difficulties with his domestic situation. I wish him well.  Convey that when you see or com with him.  Does he still live in Federal way?
