Post by: zubzub on June 03, 2010, 07:20:43 AM
just came across this....don't understand how it could have only  174,000 Kms (Kms!! that's just a little over 105,000 miles)

It's in Toronto, too - where is Buswarrior when you need him!

Can you trust the miles on any bus without an ECM?  Even ECMs can be replaced.

Hub odometers are commonly replaced as are speedometers.  I'm not sure that bus odometers need to be marked as replaced unlike passenger vehicles.

My understanding was that hub meters were usually zero'd or replace when the engine was done.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily all that unusual - as it happens my bus also has 105,000 miles on the clock, albeit it's not quite as old as that MCI. In my case there is no question of it being genuine as I've got a huge file of maintenance records for the bus including reams of four-weekly inspection sheets that record the mileage, and also all the fuel records.

Any bus in service in Ontario, where this bus is, must have monthly pit inspections documented for Ontario DOT.  So this bus probably has good paperwork if it has been working at all anywhere.  The definition of bus in Ontario is 24 or more seats, it makes no difference if it is in commercial service or not.  The pit inspections replace the otherwise required daily air-brake inspections and push-rod measurement that all other air-brake equipped vehicles are required to perform.

Not a bad price, it's the right vintage, 1982 and beyond, the steering should be the integrated one from the factory.

Mileage reading is meaningless.

phone number won't reverse look-up and the map centres on the court house downtown.

Those seats don't belong to that coach.

Who wants a helper to come along to look at it?

happy coaching!
