Yip, I finally got around to redoing our bedroom. My first attempt was shall we say, kindergarten school type! Lowe's was happy to see me return as a customer, cause I sure made the till smile! Red oak ain't cheap! But worth every dollar, it's the look we wanted. 8)
Keep in mind, I'm no carpenter like some on the board. I have very minimal tools of the trade, and learn as I go. We still have a little bit of work to do, but it's close. Becky is in the process of making a new quilt with the Route 66 theme. We finally received the plastic tin material, similar to the ceiling in the lounge. It came from India, via London Heathrow, Ohio and finally Abilene TX. No wonder they said 10-14 days when I ordered it! :P We'll install new carpet when we're finished.
Nightstands to hide our junk!

Paul:
I would like to see what you could do if you were a carpenter! That looks gorgeous! Well done.

Paul, I visited you site and saw the progress there..........nice job!
Very nice paul, one question tho, are you sure you want the doors to swing that way on the night stands, if they were hinged with the handle on the bed side, you could reach inside them and get the book out that you wanted to finish easier without getting out of bed lol. I alsways was partial to oak.
Cody, We did it that way so the handle would not hit the wall. It was the bosses idea! ;D
All of my reading material is in the bathroom! ::)
lol paul, that shows you how old I am, my magazine rack is in the bathroom and the book I read is in the bedroom, lol, I need a life, maybe one will come up on clearance at walmart and I can get one that I can afford lol.
Nice work, Paul. I recently made a couple thresholds out of Oak. The coat rack and shelf I made I hand rubbed with Poly. Maybe 10 coats....I wasn't doing anything else but it was a pain. Looks fantastic. The first threshold I did I used a window squeegy to apply the poly and save myself any sanding. Worked pretty well and only used 5 coats. This last time I used a drywall trowel....thin metal. I got away with 3 coats but really only needed two. Bear in mind that I use a jar of poly that has dried to half its volume and is as thick as butterscotch. Next day I steel wool all the slight surface buildup and it looks like it is as smooth as glass, perfectly flat and with great grain reflection. I now have a new way to finish.

Sweet Job, Dreamscape!
Nicely done and very handsome. I particularly like the rounded edges on the doors.
Seems a little friendlier and more comfortable. The red oak is gorgeous.
I personally use cardboard... my wife Kathryn absolutely loves it!!! She says, "why don't you just use wood instead?!" Then I have to explain to her (again) that, "this way, if we decide to change it around, what are we out of? Cardboard is readily available and they practically give it away behind department stores and what not."
She usually mumbles something about how we haven't changed anything inside the bus-bus for the past ten years, and I just have to laugh and say, "well now, you never know, Dear..."
Seriously Paul, that is completely dreamy! Kathryn would love bedroom furniture like that. Well done, Sir! Maybe one day... but right now, it's upgraded integral power steering, built-in fridge, forced-air heat, generator, (completed) shower... You remember.
Cheers,
Bus Boy
Thanks guys! It got my wife busy today trying to finish the quilt! Hopefully tomorrow that part of the project will be behind us.
This room is of her design, so it better be good huh! We don't have a doghouse! ::)
Nice, Nice looking job Paul. Bus is looking better & better with each accomplishment you do. Keep it up.
Gary
Paul,
IT IS WELL DONE.
This would be the showcase at the next TBR.
Can hardly wait.
Kwon
Gary, Thanks for the kudos! I hope you are doing better health wise, you deserve the best!
Kwon, Nice to hear from you. I didn't recognize your handle AJ, I would have never known. I don't know about a showcase, but I do know this. It will be a great time this year. Looking forward to seeing you and Chun this year.
Good Job.Very nice, Keep up the good work.

You weren't supposed to say anything. It's hidden under the bed to get to the bottom bay in a hurry! ;D
Hey Pete, How have you been, long time no see/hear? Doing OK?
Paul
Paul,
Looking good!
Now quit talking about a "remodel", too many of us are just trying to get through the initial build... ;)
Cliff
Cliff, That's too funny, I was thinking the same thing when I tore it apart! At least I knew how it went together the first time! ;D We're still trying to finish our first coach too, seems like we've done two already!
Here is the latest addition in the bedroom. My wife didn't want the traditional fabric valence, so I came up with this. Whew! ;D

I think 'remodel' is a relative term, I was about half way thru my iggle build when libby spotted a pile of brazilian rosewood that I had been hoarding for 30 years and she whined until I finally relented but not with the rosewood, now she has a mahogany kitchen, so I know how a project can evolve, especially since michigan has a law against dismemberment of spouses. I'm not surprised at the workmanship of pauls cabinets, I've seen pics of his other projects and each one has been detailed out nicely.
Paul, I must say I love that ceiling above the window frame picture. It looks so good and I love the tin look.

Paul,
Your right, I have been off the board for a long time, my legs were giving me a lot of problems, I would get on the board for a short time and would have to go put my legs up because of my knees, I couldn't take it any more so I went and got cortizone shots in both knees. Only two days have gone by and I can get around better and don't have to lay down all the time. Hopefully the shots will last a long time. My knees were so bad that I couldn't even walk anymore.
You said you couldn't do wood, your window looks good to me. What kind of shade do you have in the window?
Hopefully I'll be on the board more, but you know I don't talk much.

Paul, that is awesome. Very nice. You do good work. ;D
Pete, We decided to use a simple aluminum blind, room darkening type. We really wanted cellular shades, but the cost just isn't in the budget right now.
I finally finished and installed the other side today. Now onto making a couple of cabinets in the bedroom to simulate dressers.
Glad you're doing better. I tried the cortisone shots for my back several years ago, didn't work for me so I went under the knife. No back pain since. Hopefully they'll do the job for you!
I'm still learning to measure twice and cut once! It's a fun project!
It's good to see you on the board!
Paul
PS Thanks Ruthi! The work never stops when you own one of these huh!
