Title: alignment turned into repair. parts are what cost?!!!
Post by: white-eagle on May 28, 2010, 12:40:49 PM
when i pulled in for the alignment, they pointed out they could grab the top and bottom of the tire and wobble it about 2" back and forth.  so the parts list is: bushing, bearing, pins all in a rebuild kit, for upper and lower, plus new shocks and tie rods while we're at it.  both wheels, parts only $1600. :o :( :-\

anyone got better sources?  or does that sound right?  suggestions welcome.

and they didn't do the alignment.  $49 for the inspection report to be credited back when they do the alignment and/or the repairs.

How do the shocks and tie rod ends look? If they aren't bad are you sure you want to change them? What's the cost for just the king pin kits? Are you sure it's not wheel bearings? The phrase "As long as we're at it" worries me... Cable

When my bus was imported into Canada and safety checked, it got a full front end rebuild.  Parts cost in 2002, for interest only...

King pin kit - $230, both sides
tie rod - $44.50
Drag link - $61.90
wheel seals - $43.50
panhard rod rubbers - $16.00

I just put new shocks on this year, they were dead cheap.  I have about $45 each in mind, probably wrong.  If I was doing it, I'd probably do it all.  You're going to ruin the old tie rod ends doing the alignment anyway, may as well change them.  I'd change the drag link too, if it was suspect.

Guys Tom owns a Eagle it has a independent front suspension more to it than king pins 1600 sounds high to me but mine was over a 1000 in 2000 with labor.
The front end of a Eagle needs to be greased every 5000 or 6000 miles or they wear big time, they have 3 sets of pins the upper, lower and king pins

good luck
