;D To Lake Barkley to spend weekend with our children and grand children..party of 9..5 will sleep in bus and the other 4 on boat...good food, family, and bus time ;) hope you all enjoy..Bob and Judy
Nothing much planned here, libby is at her moms going thru things with her sister, packing, piling, grabbing, fighting etc. My plan is to grab a little friend and his family and take them up to copper harbor to Fort Wilkins for an enactment, the fort dates back to 1847 or around there and was used to protect the indian community from drunken copper miners, the history books don't tell it quite that way but I think I'm closer to the actual truth lol. Copper Harbor is at the tip of the Keweenaw Penninsula and the end of highway 41 at the northern part, from there you kinda run your car out into lake superior and a lot of deep water, so just short of the water is a whirl-i-gig where the road turns back onto itself and heads back to florida, Huntar likes the bus and laughs when I hit the air horn, not sure which day we'll go depends on which day the little guy is feeling the best, but I'm looking forward to it.
Central Florida LandSharks are heading out again today for what will be the 2nd of back to back outings! Boating, Fishing, Eating and slight Drinking is in store! We plan on pulling out about 2pm!
The CFL's are growing so anyone wanting to join us, give me a holler! If not this weekend, maybe another! We try to go out at least once a month, maybe more if work, health and finances permit! :)
From Tyler Tx to Sacramento Calif. Leaving at 6 pm tonight.

Last nite at marina had a 1 1/2 inch thick pork steak (smoked)could only eat 1/2..soooo good..Bus and Boat running good...life is good...happy weekend everybody...Nick tell dad thanks for his service....and at least stop and take some time for yourself..
Yesterday we spent the day in the company of a family of friends, little Huntar and his family, I fired up the bus and drove up to houghton and picked them up then we went on a ride, first stop was to Chutes and Ladders, it's a playground for kids with all kinds of tubes and platforms and stuff, you climb and you slide and you do all kinds of stuff, from there we went to the state police post in calumet and took a ride in a patrol car, even got to hit the siren and talk on the radio to some cars downstate, that new radio system with all the towers is kinda cool, got to say hi thru the radio to Govenor Grandholm and her family at a BBQ, from there we hit the fire department and rode in a firetruck and again hit the siren and even got a little red fire chiefs hat for huntar and a teddy bear that they give out to victims of home fires. Then it was nap time for the little guy so the portable crib was set up in the bus bedroom with all the stuff plugged in and we went to a state park and enjoyed a free site with electricity while we grilled some steaks and sat and visited on the beach at the park, after the naptime we took a ride and visited a copper mine that dated back to the 1840's, was kinda cool, we stopped at the state highway garage cause he spotted a road grader and the forman insisted that I pull the bus up to the diesel pump while they showed him the road grader and a huge loader, so I even got the tanks topped off which I thought was cool and nice of them, after a ride to a zoo with little animals we went home, I dropped huntar and his family off, headed home and fell asleep on the couch, little guy wore this old guy out lol, was a nice day.
My wife and I along with a lot of other Vets and pepole who remember what this day stands for will be at the little Clarkdale, AZ cemetery for a memorial service for those who gave their all so the American people can just think this is just another holiday lets party. If you just so happen to see a VFW or American legion person asking for donations for a Poppy remember these are made by VETS in hospitals and the Poppy's stand for the ones in Flanders Field. We use the money to fund programs for the Vets. If you see a Vet please say thank you and WELCOME HOME. Those from Vietnam know what I mean.
Off my soap box now, you all have a great day and remember those who made it possible, and there are a lot of us on this board.

I spent the day on a 80' House boat cruising the KY Lake and over through the canal into Lake Barkley and back.
Harrah's Metropolis Casino paid me to haul a group of Vets and their spouse, or guests over to KY Lake Dam Marina where they loaded the boat. And the group insisted I go with them. Well since I had nothing else to do for the 6 hrs they were going to be out on the water I said "sure why not!" Boy did they consume a lot of alcohol! ;) (I just drank "diet water" and watched!)

Didn't go far, just about 20 minutes to a buddies place with 19 acres. Spent good time with family and friends. Now I have to fix my genset. Some electrical problem with the starting system... Otherwise - glad to be done with brake problems! :)

I got back yesterday from Buses Gone Wild II, where us Crown and Gillig folk get together over Memorial Day weekend. Apart from driving through a swarm of bees on I-15 with my door open, no problems at all (unlike last year when my hydraulic hose burst while driving home). There was also a beautifully converted GMC Buffalo with us, so we could dream about how our buses would eventually look. I'm already looking forward to BGW III next year!

Monday (yesterday) we did the normal hit the parades, go and watch the ceremony at the cemetary, always meaningful to me, I've lost relatives in many of the wars over the years since my forefathers (?) ( three fathers? not sure) became draft dodgers during the french revolution and decided to immigrate to canada rather than loose their heads over something as simple as cake lol. So today I'm trying to make up for a weekend of slacking by building a flower bed for libby out in the front yard where the lilac from helll used to live, I'm using landscaping timbers and building it log cabin style, I'm cheating tho and instead of scribing and notching the corners I'm butt jointing them and spiking them together with 5 inch spikes, shes got a flowering crab tree to plant (for me to plant) in it and a bunch of flowers, looking at it I'm thinking that even tho the lilac was old, gnarled and ugle it did look better than the house so this is probably the begining of something I don't like lol. I'm not saying that the lilac was old but it did have an 8 inch stump, everytime I jerked on it with the truck after cutting more roots the house down the street would dip, so it did seem to have a grip on the neighborhood.
Cody, years ago i "pruned" a clump of lilacs that my wife's grandmother had planted.....I may have gone a little overboard on them. Ok, they never recovered and for almost 30 years whenever my wife sees a lilac bush i hear about it........and the town where we are at this summer is infested with the damn things!!!!!! ;D
I fully understand that Ed, if the bush had any redeeming value I would have kept it, I bought the house for my daughter in 2007 and spent more on that bush than I did on most of their childhood diseases, the more I did for the bush the uglier it got finally I admitted defeat and took it off life support, we said a few words, had a moment of silence and then jerked the little basstard out with it's ever loving roots grasping at every rock and leaf it could grip, I had to pull it almost half a block before it cryed 'uncle' and gave up surrendering with great dignity. It's now gone to the great brush pile in the sky and has been replaced by a beautiful flowering crab tree that I think is waiting for the next generation to torment.
We just continued our visit with friends (and fellow busnuts) Ray & Ann up here in NC. I did some more whitewater kayaking on Saturday, Sunday & Monday (A run each day, totally about 30 miles). Jack

No Bob, I forget the name of the boat we were on but that wasn't it. Also we were only out 5-6 hrs but I did see several others anchored around in different coves.
Justin (our captain) told us he placed 8 boats out on the lake for the weekend. (he takes the boat loaded with the passengers and their food and gear for the weekend to the anchoring spot of their choice, parks it, and returns to the Marina by a "toad" jet ski. Then when they are ready to return he goes and drives the boat back to the Marina for them.)
;D BK ;D
