Title: GM Hinge "little screws"
Post by: sweeney153 on May 02, 2010, 10:50:49 AM
I started to change the rubber hinges on my 4106. I read all the posts I could find. Many posts say to make sure you save the little screws that hold the hinge in place. So far I cleaned out two hinges (what a job) and have no little screws. can anybody tell me what size I need?

Thanks

Kevin

I think they are either #4 or #6 x 1/4".  Try boltdepot.com

I have never put any of the screws back in mine and in 10 years cannot tell it matters.

With out the screws the doors tend to shift side to side and rub together.>>>Dan

I picked up screws at Lowes and will get back to hinges hopefully tomorrow. I don't know if leaving them out will have any ill effect, but sine its no big deal to put them in I will just in case.

Kevin,

The screws in the body part of the hinge make it much easier to slide on the doors.

Please make sure to use stainless steel screws, otherwise they really rust when screwed into Al. Next time you change them you will be glad you did.

I did get the stainless. The third one i worked on had screws(non Stainless). I had to end up breaking it and pounding it out.
