Title: Detroit 6v92 Injector size
Post by: NeoplanAN440 on May 01, 2010, 11:14:09 AM
Can anybody give me a good side or manual to see the difference in flow and hp per injector???

whats the hp and flow difference from

7G75   to 9280 or 9290  ????

anyone running 9295 in a 6v92 ????

everybody is telling different storys!!!
my book doesnt cover any 7g75 ,but it says the last two digits are the flow rate!!!!?
now i got the answer from a detroit mechanic that the 7G75 will flow 80  like a 9280 ???!!!!

whats right

thanks

I can not provide a scientific precise answer. However I have 9G90's in a 6V92 and if I do not keep my foot out of it, I consume fuel like soup thru a goose. Keeping my speeds at  63-64 I can record 7.8+ mpg, which is fine by me. My bus is a 35'er.

Good Luck,

Yes the last two figures are the flow rates.  On the 6V-92TA the truck version with 90 injector put out 335hp with 1000lb/ft torque.  Then all horsepower ratings are directly related to the injector size.  95's will be 350hp with 1050lb/ft torque.  85's-315hp @ 950lb/ft.  80's-310hp @ 880lb/ft.  75's-277hp @ 830lb/ft.  If you have just a 4 spd manual trans, I'd go no higher then 85's, with 90 starting to smoke (unless you change the turbo).  Only go to 95's if you have an automatic.  Good Luck, TomC

AN440, the 7g65,7g70, and 7g75 injectors are not uncommon to the 92 series, you can have 7g75 injectors and depending on the setting the 6v92 will be from 271 hp to 294 hp or you can have 9g90 injectors and be as low 300 hp to many different ways to set a DD up that is why they have over 30 timing gauges.

good luck

Neo, the information about HP,torque and injector setting to achieve it is found in the DD service tech manual books covers all 92 series, very hard to find manuals book 1 volume 3 will work for most guys no need for all 4 unless you are going to do marine engines.

good luck

Now to totally confuse everyone, Don Fairchild used 9G75 injectors in my 8V-71TA.  Under a pull-it puts out zero visible smoke.  Good Luck, TomC
