Title: Check the bulkhead!!!
Post by: scenicruiser997 on April 16, 2010, 08:23:35 PM
Here goes.  I have this fellow busnut friend of mine that knows what bus I am in the process of restoring.  Everytime I see him or talk to him before we leave, he always tells me to "inspect your bulkhead".  What does he know and what do I need to be looking for?  This is really starting to bother me, and worry me. What am I looking for, when he tells me to check my bulkhead?

I thought a 4501 had engine rails and did not hang from the bulkhead like the V drives GM's ?

good luck

If It has the GM V- drive bulkhead. This is typically what can happen on the left side by the lower Radiator mounting area.

The motor is mounted on a cradle with a T-drive, with two bolts in the front and three jacks from the back that can be adjusted for tilt from the left to the right.  What is he talking about?

A rear bulkhead is a partition or barrier can be structural or non structural if your engine is tied to it maybe he wants you to check for cracks or bad welds I don't know enough about the 4501 to tell you what to check

good luck

For the most part the one I just finished working on was non structural.  The center section around the mounts and up are all part of the main structural.  The outer sections I believe were just barriers even the parts book casll some of the components " stiffeners "

I opened up the right side to accomadated the new larger tranny.  This picture is the "before"
