I need to replace a coil on one bank. DD 8V71na (they are marked 71/92) Question is do the coils come off and just slide back on like other solenoids or is it more involved and where is the best source to get them DD? I am going but the bus today to check voltage I thick they are 12V but want to make sure
Thanks

Could be either voltage. Probably depends on what was available at best price when they were installed. If vI recall correctly, there are 1 or 2 O rings around the lower part of the coil. Go to www.jakebrake.com (http://www.jakebrake.com) for complete parts & service manual. Jack
Thanks Jack
I checked they are 12 V. Where can I get them at a fair price?

My coils are threaded so they screw on and off. I thought that I needed a coil last year, but I found that the solenoid was not screwed in tight, and therefore not making a good ground. They are easy to check, just unscrew one and hook it up to a good 12v source and ground. You can see them work (The top disk pulls in a fraction of an inch). I also need to mention that they need a full 12v. A slight voltage loss in any connection will cause the solenoid to be weak or inoperative.
I'm curious as to why you would be using a 12V coil on an MCI, which is usually a 24V bus?

Brian,
Our MC-8 has 12 volt Jakes because that was what was available at the best price (used) . We operate them off the house battery bank and have had no problems. Jack
Rick;
The solenoids screw on and off. Their are three square cut "o" rings each a different size.
I don't know if I have any good used ones or not but I will look on Monday. At this time I am shut down and looking for a place to move to. i am talking to my wife read hard about moving out off this state.
Don't know what the future holds yet but look forward to it.
