Title: Spicer 4 speed wet to dry clutch question
Post by: bryanhes on April 06, 2010, 11:24:06 AM
In my 4905 I have a wet clutch Spicer 4 speed. I hear about 4 speed spicers in other buses as well. From my understanding these are a dry clutch.

My question- Is it possible to turn a wet clutch into a dry clutch? I know this is open to wise cracks,  ;D but humor me  ;)

If this could be done I would not mind shifting so much as the dry clutch seems to shift easier.

Hi Bryan & Folks:

Yes it can be done.

You will need a replacement, transmission, flywheel and 15" double disc clutch assy. & shift & clutch rods.(You may be able to modify your rods).
Best bet would be to find someone parting out a 4106 which would have everything you need.

I Hope this HELPS!!!

Happy & SAFE!! Bussin' to All.

How about going for an automatic?

Richard,

The more I think about it the more I feel I am loosing fuel economy and cruising speed with the auto. As most of the time is spent in fourth anyway. If it shifted and went into gear with less effort I would be fine with it. Just thinking out loud at this point. When we were working on the 7 it just slipped into gear so much easier than the wet clutch. That is what got me thinking about it.

Bryan,

If you decide to go that route, I've got a 4106 transmission, flywheel. and clutch assy that will fix you right up. PM me if you're interested.
