Title: Cooling fan drive gasket?
Post by: brando4905 on April 05, 2010, 05:57:47 AM
Just got back from first trip with "new to me engine"! Trip totaled 1000mi, blew out over 2 gallons of oil through fan drive gasket, other than that it was a successful trip.

The leak is at the gasket that mates the fan drive to engine. I can't seem to locate a new gasket, anyone have a part number? Bus is a 4905, engine is 8v71.

Thanks,
Brandon

you need to make your own gasket if it is the gasket. I just had to replace the seal again in mine as it had worked out and stuck to the hub for the fan and was turning inside the housing and pumped out over 3 gallons in 1000 miles

Brandon,

If it's the gasket between the fan drive and the oil pump it's #2386776. Mohawk is showing 446 on hand at $1.05 ea.

If it's the gasket between the oil pump and the block It's # 5121714. Mohawk is showing 145 on hand at $4.40 ea.

Luke posted while I was typing this. He's certainly a good source for parts, as well.

Thanks for the info guys!

When this new engine was put in, the hydraulic fan was replaced with my direct drive fan. Homemade gasket was used in this swap and didn't work. Hoping the right gasket will do the job.
