Hi All
Thanx to all of you for providing such an informative and entertaining Board.
Just thinking of setting out a new dash for the Denning Landseer I'm going to convert and hoping for some advice/feedback. Planning on using VDO electronic gauges from the Cockpit international range
Just wondering if there is any benefit in having 2 engine water temp gauges (I've seen this on DDEC engines, one each bank I believe) Is this hard to set up 2nd sensor
And because I like gauges I want to put in oil Temp gauges for the engine, gearbox and Diff. Are these hard to fit sensors for? I have a six speed spicer and an Eaton rear axle.
In addition to the above I am planning
oil Pressure gauge
Tacho/hourmeter
Speedo
2 dual air pressure gauges
Ammeter
voltmeter
I would appreciate your comments or advice
Thanx
Glen

Glen,
We installed 2 temp gauges on our engine (one in each thermostat housing). All it takes is an additional wire from the extra sender to the extra gauge. We installed an engine oil temp sender unit by replacing a plug in the side of the oil pan with the sender. Sending units can also be installed in the transmission and rear axle by replacing the drain plugs, but make sure there is cxlearance for the sender element. Jack
The way I wired my bus for extra gauges was to buy 5 different colored 50ft extension cords, bundle them together with nylon tie wraps and then ran it from the rear engine compartment to the driver's compartment. So far I've used two wires for the tachometer, and two wires for the cruise control. That leaves 11 more wires for gauges and such. Good Luck, TomC
I ran 2 (5 wire trailer hitch) cables - works for me
Thanx for the replies.
What are the advatages of the 2nd water temp gauge?

Glen,
For me, there were 2 reasons.
Reason 1: I am a data freak. I want to constantly know as much as I can about my coach so that hopefully I can spot a minor problem before it becomes a major problem.
Reason 2: Hopefully be able to notice a sticking thermostat quicker.

Instead of installing duplicate gauges I put a single pole double throw switch next to the gauge and have one feed into the gauge and two feeds to the switch and I can check two items with one gauge by switching back and forth between feeds. The switch was less than three dollars as compared to the cost of the gauge and the switch takes up less space than an additional gauge.
Just another solution to your questions.

YMMV

I've sent a PM -
but you need to look at --> http://www.busnut.com/classifieds/index.php?a=2&b=598 (http://www.busnut.com/classifieds/index.php?a=2&b=598) very inexpensive + I have additional matching single gauges

Thanx for the replies and PM but I need 24V and talk in those foreign things, Kilometers and Celcius.
Any of the DD guys now what VDO sender and thread size to use for Water and oil Temp?
Also what is best to monitor as far as Turbo goes, boost or Temp and where do you connect in?
Thanx
Glen
