Title: Tires again
Post by: Ace on April 01, 2010, 02:37:23 PM
Its time for some new tires since mine are outdated! They look like new but the dates are 03 on all but the tag and those are 01! I'd chance them running local a while longer but future plans call for more hwy runs out of state!
Any deals out there that anyone knows about on 315/80r22.5 tires would be appreciated! Goodyears now but they are way proud of them!

Ace,

We got so fed up with trying to find reasonably priced 315's that we gave up and went back to 12R's.  We wanted the 315's to run lower pressure because we spend a fair amount of time in soft stuff, but in the end decided it was just not worth it.

On top of the extra cost, the 315's have a fuel mileage penalty, a weight penalty (all unsprung), and a steering effort penalty.

Remember that even if a dealer could sell you a 12R and a 315 for exactly the same price (which they usually can not -- 315s are almost always more expensive), you will still pay an additional $9.35, minimum, per tire in FET.

We decided the downside of having to run another 10psi per tire was just not worth the expense.

Unless your bus is a lot heavier than ours, which I can't imagine, you might think about switching sizes.

FWIW.

Hey Ace,

Here is my thread from last fall when I installed Cooper Roadmasters on the drives.

So far, I like them... Though, that chinese rubber smells way different then US made rubber.

Thanks for your input everyone! The tire prices have sky rocketed from what I'm getting. I even called that Piedmont tire that Gary posted here a while back and they were even higher. Michelin's ran about 5 grand for 8 m,b w/ new stems.
Goodyears are 650.00 each tire only! Firestones are 485.00 Tire only.
I can get the Cooper "Roadmaster" which comes highly recommended here locally at 445.00 each and m,b and new stems! Looks like I will be 6 of them since 6 is all anyone has within 75 mile radious! Next week for sure since I'm gonna nurse my 7 year olds one more short trip to Kissimmee for Easter Weekend!

Yes Niles I sure did and I even checked all the big tire shops in and around Ocala but they ALL were high or higher IF I could even talk to anyone that knew anything! On some I would of had better luck talking to a wal-mart greeter with less knowledge of tires! If you know of a place that can beat the 445.00 per tire  M,B with new stems, please post it or send it!

The reason I gave you Dale's number was  I couldn't remember the name of the Co. or know if their still in business, so i did a little searching - Well I couldn't find the invoice but did find the receipt - Hoffner Tire Service on 301 just northof the 441 cutoff in Citra - I think the # is 3five2-5nine5-8040 - I bought the KRS 03's - and Dale has the info on the guy that bought the takeoffs - HTH

Ace, Tony Manna just bought tires for his motor home from someone close to Orlando.  He went one size larger to the 85 instead of the 80 and got them for less than $500.00 each.  You have my phone number, call me and I will put you in touch with Tony.
