From about 20 minutes after I got my bus I wanted to have a high exhaust on it, I just didn't like blowing the exhaust and yes, smoke, down low in city driving, at toll booths, and in campgrounds. I ordered a custom setup from a local truck exhaust place, to go from the outlet of the stock MCI muffler, under the back bumper, and up the back, with a stainless shield and a chrome stack on top of that. I just have to fabricate some mounts and I should be good to go. I'll take pictures when it's done. I expect it will look a little redneck, but just because I'm from Ontario doesn't mean I don't appreciate a little redneck from time to time :o I'm even trying to play a little bluegrass on my guitar to add to the blues and jazz I usually ruin trying to play...
Brian
who has put a stack on a gmc4905 or 4107. I'm redneck too, and I WANT ONE. No other reason. Pictures if you have them.
Big John
Brian,
Picture Please,
John
Should be on tomorrow, if I'm lucky.
Brian
Great idea! Seriously cuts down the dust when driving down dirt roads.
Wasn't it Ruthi (?) that put 2 stacks out the back. One was for fresh air in. And Brian don't be using the words "appreciate a little redneck from time to time" on a regular basis! ;)
Install is complete, except for getting some nicer looking mounting clamps and adding one under the bumper to take the vertical load better. Results are amazing, frankly. It is far quieter with the noise 11' off the ground, and the smoke and exhaust is far far less noticeable. It tucks right in between the engine door and the turn signals, only problem is poor access to the radiator covers. If that turns out to be an issue I will replace the hinge with four Dzus fasteners on the outboard to match the four on the inboard. Cost was $750, near enough, including the custom adaptor to the muffler, which had a 4 3/8" outlet which is non-standard, and happened to be 2" higher than the lip of the bumper, so it had to wiggle down some.
Now to see if the pictures post...

Love it! How about some more details and if they are willing to build more? What about cost? Location?
Thanks for all the pictures.

^He said $750 for parts
And you definitely get redneck points for that!
I had it built by http://www.texisexhaust.com/, (http://www.texisexhaust.com/,) Mississauga Ontario, I designed it and faxed them a detailed drawing, they built it to the drawing, all of the parts except the adaptor are stock items, I went and picked it up as a kit of pieces, fabricated mounts, and it went on perfectly the first time. You'd think I knew what I was doing! Here is a picture of a header I built for a Reynard Formula Ford last year, I finished another one in January but I didn't take pictures of it.
You get that old 8v71 churning going up a mountain and belching fire at 900 degrees you can put the 3 lights on a milk carton they will be lost but it looks nice
good luck
Brian, nice headers like you built are a piece of art and a touch of class to any vehicle. The bus exhaust serves it's purpose...artfully so! I am truly impressed that you can draw something out and someone someplace else can fabricate it and then it all fits together!!!!!!
If Larry the Cable Guy sees that...there will be no end to the jokes!
man thats just gonna make you want more you need to put duels out the back, and mount one on each side of the buss in the back
I never understood why MCI and Gm did not have dual pipes like the Eagles with 8v71's had.
I love the sound of those Eagles with duals and a 8v71 made me sad when I removed my 71
good luck
Very nice looking. Yea, we did it on our dina. Here is the pic.

It will look better when it gets painted, ;D
Brian,
Boss Hog with that stack, Good looking MC! 5, straight bus.

Hi bevens6,
Your installation looks very nice. Are you concerned that the pipe below the bumper will drag going through a dip, over a speed bump, or just out a steep driveway? Your bus may not have as much overhang as our 4106 but we have dragged our hitch on several occasions and it isn't as far below the bumper as your pipe is. I hope you don't have any problems with dragging.
Good luck, Sam MC8
A video would really be nice ; nice job
Great looking exhaust-a bit of the big rig influence. Only draw back is if you have to go up a steep driveway that may take out or bend the lower pipe. But, I bet you thought of that. Good Luck, TomC
