Title: Another 4106 in storage yard. Worth saving?
Post by: fortyniner on March 26, 2010, 09:21:12 PM
I found PD4106-1602 in West Palm Beach Fl. Its been in storage for several years and suffered a couple of broken windows recently. Engine looks pretty clean and bus is straight. Ive attached a few pics seller sent. The price is right but not sure what it would take besides tires to get road worthy. Anyone know anything about this bus?

Can you put up some more photos? All I can tell you is that it doesn't have power steering, and probably no jakes. I could use that muffler though.

Here are some more engine pics. The South Dakota title says Harlows Bus Sales 1996, then Robertos Autobus Inc in Dallas. Doesnt look like it was an east coast bus so far. Im shocked by the weight on the title: 14000lbs. Thats over 8000lbs less than my gutted 4905! No wonder these are called sports busses.

It's absolutely amazing what is tucked away in storage, looks like you found a great toy, that'll be fun to bring back or convert.  Last week a guy from chicago was up here cleaning up his grandfathers camp to get it ready to sell and unlocked a shed and pulled off a tarp and found an old bentley, last license plate was 1941, that camp was close to where I grew up and none of us knew it was there, the old guy would come up about once or twice in the summer for a couple of days and then he had gotten old and hadn't been up in years, he finally died last fall.

I know nothing about this bus, but my Uncle Robert is living in West Palm Beach, FL right now.
He is pretty bus savvy as he has owned about 20 of them over the yrs.
If you wanted me to I could ask him to have a look at it for you.

Has many hard to find items being a untouched bus. Upper marker lights, turn signal lenses. The jerks who took out the back glass need to be found and delt with. Most take the rear glass out when converting, but there are still some of us out there that are looking for a good set of rears. How straight are the baggage bin doors? Any rust issues around the rear cap, front cap, drivers window? Check the floor at the drivers seat next to the window for rot, and check the electrical panel at the left of the driver for corrosion. You will almost always find some corrosion at the bottom, not a difficult fix. If the price is right then you might have a nice shell. But it is hard to justify the time and money to do a GM now days unless DIY is the top priority. Also 35' long, and less than 11' tall, makes a sweet national, state park rig. FWIW

BK, if your Uncle could take a close look for any corrosion or issues that would prevent a trip back to Tx that would be a tremendous help since Im 1300 miles away. The price is low enough to justify tires, lube, batteries and the fuel to drive back to Tx.

From what I can tell it was never an east coast bus so Im hoping corrosion is minimal.

Its real shame about the rear glass. I almost gave up when I saw those pics but the engine compartment looks pretty clean and radiator and hoses look like they were maintained so it might be a decent platform in spite of the neglect.

What Are Rear Windows Bringing These Days ??

I Have Heard There Pretty Rare And Cost.

Makes Me Happy My Large Window And One Corner Glass Is Still Good On My 4104.

Just Curious

Best -

Rear window glass for the 4104, 4106 and Scenicruiser is currently made from unobtainium.

49er -

PD4106-1602 was delivered new as fleet number A-94 in January of 1963 to Arrow Stage Lines, based in Norfolk, NE.

It's too bad somebody took out the back glass - idiots.

FWIW & HTH. . .
