Title: Help looking for
Post by: Ace on March 24, 2010, 05:02:55 AM
a right angle or side mount CB antenna. The problem I have is I only have a 1 inch wide area for mounting it. I know there is one somewhere as I have seen one recently but don't have a name for it and short of borrowing it with the option to keep it is out of the question! Only other one I found is too big!
It has to be able to handle upwards of 200 watts so the glass mounts won't work!
Thanks

Have you looked at a Firestik MKM2 side mount?

Or you could "modify" a AUSM4 to a 1" wide mount

That's about the only ones I know of that small that will take any power at all.

Thanks! The firestix M2 won't work and the K40 doesn't come in a side mount although a good antenna! My only other option is to do as suggested and make or mod my own which is what I will work on!

Ace,
Your looking for a Firestik Molded Side Mount.

I have used a 250watt booster with no problems with this mount.

Heres one in florida, not where I got mine.
I think I got it at Walmart or Camping world.

Ed thanks! I have looked at that particular one and really wanted to use it but it simply won't work on my bus! My bus is mostly glass on the sides and I only have a space that is 1 inch wide that actuallty is accessible from the inside!
Now after trying to make one work, it appears that 1 inch space is not usable either. My front cap area is about 6 inches tall and although I could mount it there, it would put my antenna too far above the coach's roof and
a/c's etc.! Looks like I'm back to the drawing board on this one!

Ace,
When we installed the CB antennas (dual Co-Phased) on our coach, we had a similar problem. We installed brackets made from small pieces of 2"x2"x1/8" aluminum angle. These are screwed through the fiberglass cap into the metal framing. The coax is routed through a grommet installed in the fiberglass cap at a place that we had interior access (inside a cabinet).  The antennas are 36" FireStix with coil springs on them to allow bending when a low branch (or shop roof truss) gets in the way.  We did break one of the original 2' FireStix before we added the coil springs.
The 3' antennas put more antenna above the roof line and give us a little better reception/power. We have had no problems since installing the 3' FireStix and the coil springs.  Jack

Jack that's exactly where I am now only using a single firestik which is either going to be a 2 or 3 footer! Looks like I am fabricating my own bracket!
