I stopped at the local NAPA to get some spare 24 volt bulbs, I ordered 2 1683's tail and stop, 2 1638's side turn, and 2 1252 tail. The young man came back to the counter and said that will be $32. I did not buy them, it seems a bit excessive for 6 bulbs. Are these prices out of line? Is there a better place to buy bulbs?
Work?/Play safely Jim
Jim, I've felt your pain...and since I have a very low pain threshold...I searched and found Lamp Technology, Inc. in upstate NY.
If you know the number of the bulbs you need...they'll be happy to sell you the bulbs at a decent price...eg...#623 bulbs..$.0.63ea.
#1450 bulbs...$0.37 ea. #1203 bulbs...$0.58 ea
I have no connection with this company other than being a customer. I gain nothing in refering anyone to this Company. My comments are meant to be informational only.
So, with that disclaimer in place...I hope you find that they are a great supplier and hope that other BusNuts find them as I did. Your Parts manual should have a page dedicated to all the bulb number you need for your bus...if not...we'll be happy to help you.
Bob
Hate to tell you Jim but that is actually a good price for 6 24 volt bulbs,If you or any one finds a much better price I would like to know where Mike
I've got my spares from Bulb Direct.

They shipped fast but still expensive.
Forgot to mention that they carry both name brands and the odd ball brands.
I've used the odd balls with good luck so far and it saves, there about 1/4 the price.
So I guess if they did fail a little early I still would be ahead.
For your order name brands would be $28.38 or$ 6.52 for their odd ball brand names.
Just my 2cents
Good luck.

You just ansewered my question. I went to www.lamptech.com and found the bulbs I need, but was not sure about the GE designation so was going to ask.
1638 28V 76 cents each
1638GE 28V $7.57 each
1252 28V 56 cents
1252GE 28V $3.12
I assume GE is the name brand and the other is the off brand? Da Book only shows the number with no GE. I can live without the GE logo for $6.71 cents less.
I do not wear Nike sneakers either, I do not care what Michael Jorden wears I prefer BoBo's!!
www.lamptech.com had the bulbs I needed at a resonable price, but they have a $25 minimum order.
I ordered from www.bulbdirect.com
1252 28V $0.84 ea
1638 28V $1.42 ea
1683 28V $1.00 ea I ordered a total of 14 bulbs, should be a lifetime supply, for me anyway maybe not the bus ;D. There was a $5.95 shipping and handleing charge.
Thanks everybody Jim
jrbus Thank you for posting your final solution. We always see questions and seldom see solutions. Many possible solutions get posted but the final answer seldom gets communicated. It is nice to see what really worked for you. Thanks!!

Yes, yes, thanks, Jim.
You just saved me some serious cash on my next 24v coach bulb purchase!

I also notice that people do not mention what they pay. I am not a materialistic person but money is very important to me (cheap!!!!)
I have had great success with finding 24 volt bulbs for the bus and very reasonable prices at the company below. Great customer service and excellent shipping standards. There are some minimum quantities but that shouldn't hurt given the number of bulbs on a bus. Many of the bulbs can be ordered online without issue.

Good luck!

I get most of mine from Ampco out of Kansas City (I'll add the # when I'm down at the shop later), or C&J Bus Repair out of MN (same with # ) They both know what ya need, and have them reasonalbly priced, I haven't priced 'em anywhere else because these two are a heck of a lot cheaper than MCI or NAPA! BK ;D
I buy all my bulbs from International Bus in Apopka (Orlando) Florida. Their website is www.1800intlbus.com and their phone number is 800-468-5287. Seems like they were around a buck apiece.

That's Ampcon @ 1-800-705-6392 and C & J @ 1-800-228-7349 there may be cheaper places, but I've always had great customer service and fair prices from these 2 ! BK ;D
