Hi all,I got interested in the idea of buying a bus for fulltiming/traveling for retirement.
Retirement is a long ways down the road so in the mean time I get to learn as much as I can about the subject.
My question is what am I looking at in terms of insurance.
It's just me and I'll probably purchase a used 45'er outrite or at least 50%.
Pennsylvania address.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,Richard

If you live in it you are not insuring a bus.

The actual insurance rate will be for a motorhome, and will depend on the value. Some insurers will do agreed value, others insist on a survey and appraisal. The value of a converted bus is problematic at best. They tend to cost far more to create than they can be sold for, and the flip side of that coin is you can buy one for far less than you could build one. I pay in the neighbourhood of $600 or $700 a year, and the agreed value is $20,000. Actually that's the minimum value the insurance company has and I can have an appraisal done to raise it if I ever get around to it. For me, the insurance is cheap and I'm not all that fussed about the amount or the valuation, so I'm quite happy with that. Frankly, it seemed quite inexpensive, I was expecting more.
Welcome to the board. When I joined, I started reading the archives, it took about 6 months of browsing to page back all the way to the beginning, just grabbing the odd post or two that seemed to touch on areas of interest. Kind of a fun way to waste a little time between jobs! If you are on the main "all topics" page, the URL has a number as the last data point. If you enter another number, you go to the page that number post is on.
