All,
Along with my other post on what to look for in a BUS, why buy a BUS over an RV?
So think about this and number 1 thru 5 on what you think are "the top 5 most important reasons on why to buy a BUS over an RV in priority order".
Thx, Tim
With my old S&S rigs 5, I constantly fought roof leaks
4, They shook apart when they were young
3, They looked like every other one
2, It took major work to change the interior design
1, No one said "What year is it, how did you do that, are you out of your mind, I want one, or that's cool.

This should apply to some of you
SO ALL US BUS NUTS WON"T BE SO LONELY!
But seriously consider this: RV's are made for being used every now & then. And maybe a total life of 100,000 miles. And not in a commercial application. Buses are made for literally millions of miles of use. Just go walk in some of the RV's even the "Spensive Ones" then walk in a bus conversion. You'll see.
Stick & Staple motorhome accidents tend too often look like this:

While bus accidents tend to look more like this (still bad, any accident is, but you can see the difference):

What's wrong with that Crown? That will buff right out. It's just obediently waiting to have its nether regions inspected, then it will roll back up, shake itself dry, and carry on as if nothing happened. I guess that white smudge on the ground next to it is all that's left of the S&S that got too close to it. All in a days work for your typical skoolie.
John
It's easier to service a Crown by rolling them on their side.
A Bus is a Bus is a Bus is a Bus...
M&C ;D
reason #1: We could afford a nice bus that was big and tough enough for out needs (towing a race car trailer).
reason #2: We thought the S&S MH's we looked at were crap.
reason #3: We really like rolling along and singing this song: "There's a big bus going to Nashville, leaving at quarter to four"' over and over, endlessly, bouncing in our seats like fools with silly grins. That's all we know of the song. In a S&S MH, I think we'd look a little silly doing that, don't you? :o
No reason 4 and 5, writer is out trying to start the bus.
We tried the MH route. Shook them to pieces going up and down the highways, putting around 60 to 80,000 a yr on them. We live in the south, and I would rather be in our old bus when there are tornando warnings than in the house. ;D It may roll, but chances are better there of survival, lol.
I had an S&S, a Gulfstream to be precise. Second only to a Bounder for first place in the motorhome hall of junk! I do not need 5 reasons, only two.
It was not steerable, the thing was all over the road, by the time I got anywhere I was exhausted. 2. the brakes were inadequate, further stress wihile driving. Do you really need three more reasons?
There are reasons my experience was so bad. But I did not learn what I needed to know before buying an RV until later. If you are considering an S&S. Check out rv.org If someone close to me was going to buy an RV I would force them to pay the $139 to join or pay it myself!! JIm
Not all Class A are equal I would have no fear of owning a Newell or a Foretravel me I prefer the new Newell over a bus
good luck
1. safety
2. safety
3. safety
4. safety
5. storage space
As a firefighter, I responded to a accident where a SUV collided with a brand new class C S&S. The Suv was in fair shape even after rolling over and the motorhome appeared to have exploded. The ford chassis cab was the only thing recognizable. After seeing that, I cant believe I ever put my family into one of those things.
Top Gear raced motor homes around a track. They also raced buses around a track. If you saw those 2 episodes you could see for yourself which is safer. ;D

Based on one of the photos I posted above, it appears that cars fair similarly against S&S's.
1. Family of 6 does not fit well in S&S without using up couches and tables as beds
2. Storage.
3. Heavy duty
4. Parts availability (diesel parts are easy to get in Seattle)
5. They are cool and a good husband/wife building project (this may be #1).
#1-When I was driving truck, I saw many a S&S turn into a pile of sticks.
#2-I know that buses are built like tanks to safety standards.
#3-Most buses use the same equipment as commercial trucks that are both long lasting and easily obtainable.
#4-I've never seen a floor plan I really liked.
#5-When I was driving truck, I saw many a S&S turn into a pile of sticks.
I have a friend that bought a classic 20ft Winnebagel. I told him to never get in an accident with it-it will fall apart. Somehow, they never like to hear that. Good Luck, TomC
I don't need five reasons, one will do.
I wanted one and that's that! ;D
Do you look good in it????and all the others good reasons....Structural issues are hardest to overcome...A sticks and staples or Le toilets(as one friend refers to them)..are built as glitz...not for the long haul.buses were ment to endure year after year millions of miles..go for a ride in both..that should answer all questions..
I don't need 5 reasons, I just fire that old 2 stroke up and I know exactly why I own a bus ;D
Number 1 reason, SAFETY, I have seen wrecked buses and I have seen wrecked RVs. I'll take a bus everytime
Other reasons:
wife prefers a bus
the sound of that 2 stroke
the ride & handling
storage space
I ask a top end s&s salesman to compare a American Heritage ride to a regular old Prevost and he said the Prevo was much better..He is selling a 700 grand sticks and staples and said that.
This should cover all five:
How many circa 1940's& 50's sticks and staples do you see or here of?
Rusty, that is the best reason I have heard, ;D
It's sorta kinda of like airplanes, hot rods, motorcycles, guns and boats, if I have to explain it You will not possibly understand! I love My junk including old John Deere tractors they make My day. Never saw a sticks glue and nails that had stainless floors and beautiful stainless sides. I love My bus it smiles at me every time the old DD whistles to life. Any questions? John L
#5 - what other 8 wheeled hobby can you spend your life savings on?
#4 - "wtf is that game" is not near as fun of a game when old diesel engines, old air rids systems, and 1 million wires running to everywhere aren't involved...
#3 - these old girls never break down, they have little genies that keep them running....its magic.
#2 - parking these dancing fairy's is like sticking a needle into a 5 gallon bucket - no probs.
#1 - 5 mpg's - 130 gallon tanks....mmmmmhmmmmmm - man thats great!!!!!
..........oh wait, you wanted reasons to support these big pigs.........give me a couple more years...I'll think of one or two
I sure do miss the old girl......
love,

Greg, just an off the wall question. Is your dad's name David?
No sir, but I have an older brother named David. I'm just a young'n. Dad is Mike.
1. better on fuel milage
2. easy to park
3. cheaper to maintain
4. you blend in with the traffic
5. THEY DONT BURN OR LEAK OIL!!!
Oh..... wait..... what was the question??? ??? :D
In this order
1. buses are cool.
