Can a rally be successful with nothing planned or organized? Where people just show up and kick tires, lie about fuel mileage and maybe throw an impromtu supper together and a fire. Where they just pay their park fees and gather in lawn chairs to pick on each other. I'm thinking it might be fun and the next question would be when, the only time the campground is really full is during the pow wow in july, generally there are lots of open sites and would have to talk to the caretaker but he's a great guy, I don't know what the rates are and I don't think they do either lol, one site says 8 bucks, another says 15, so who knows what they are. What is available locally is a major fuel stop about a half mile down the road, tribally run with the lowest cost diesel and gas around with lots of room to manuver and a local casino about 2 miles away, the campground is on a small penninsula and lots of water including a marina and a lighthouse, it also has some burial mounds that date back a thousand years or so but they get really upset if a person starts digging up stuff. The sites are huge, I've parked our bus sideways in them to be broadside to the lake for the view at times, a bunch of them not only have 30 amp but also 50 amp with portapotties scattered around and water faucets all over to fill from, the dump station is on the road coming in and I've never seen anyone pay to dump, I never heard of them charging before but might be a new idea. The sites are large and level on solid ground and all of them have a great view of the bay, I'm thinking sometime in august would be the best time.
Sure Cody, bet it'd fly. As long as we don't need snow shovels. I'm game as I usually keep a couple gallons of DEET on-board.
Just for grins, we're about 400 miles due north of chicago on the shore of lake superior right at the base of the keweenaw penninsula (thats that big thing that juts out into lake superior from the south shore) when we're heading someplace like to BK's we go thru wisconsin, 39/51 is an innerstate with 65 for the speed limit and a good road, also the wisconsin dells are often a stopping off point just north of the 90/94 cutoff. For anyone that might like the lower michigan route you would cross the big mac and then turn west for 220 miles. We're 220 miles east of Duluth, 400 miles north east of minniapolis, our mosquitos prefer type 0 blood but by august they are already so weak from a lack of tourists they are pretty much limited to walking on the ground and hitchhiking. August is our warmest month up here and the nicest, even the lake is heated up by then and often reaches 46F or so, so bring your swimming suits lol.

I like the fellowship at shared meals, so I encourage them by having what I call 'modified covered dish' meals'. I make sure there is a main dish & encourage others to being sides - if someone can't bring a side, there is a donation pot to help offset the cost of the main dish.
The only planning I do is to post here a tentative menu. That way attendees can know what to bring as a side - or an entree if they don't like my choice. ;D

Having a dry erase board is a great way to let others know the meal times & remind them of the menu.
