Title: Vanner Equalizer Info
Post by: Lin on February 23, 2010, 10:00:38 AM
I have started looking at getting a Vanner equalizer.  I have seen some refurbished 60-50's reasonably priced, but Vanner has not made these in about 20 years.  Does anyone one know how a unit like that would compare to a current model like a 65-60?

Lin,

I bought mine from this guy on ebay: llumag. Just do an advanced search and you will find him. Lots of electronic stuff.
He has several of the used 60-60. They are the newer models. He has them listed for 499.00. I offered $150.  He took it. It looks good and works great.

Don't tell him I sent you, LOL

HTH,

Bryan

Now this is going to sound just silly.  SInce I'm a newbie ya gotta five me some leeway.  What the heck is a Vanner Equalizer, and what does it do specifically?  The bus I just bought has one, but since I'm wingin' it with busses I have no clue what it is....

A Vanner equalizer is used to allow you to center tap your 24 volt battery system to get 12 volts.  You can center tap (draw current from one battery) without one, but that would cause one battery to be draining more than the other.  Your alternator would recognize a need for charging base on the weaker battery and would therefore be overcharging the stronger battery.  The equalizer monitors the situation and send current from the stronger to the weaker battery to keep the load balanced.  This gives you much improved battery life.

Bryan,

I did find it on Ebay.  There is also another one that has refurbished 60-50's for $150. with a 90 day warranty.  One of those will work fine.  I am just debating about getting a more recent model.  Vanner says that they have not made those in 20 years.  I don't know that the newer ones are really any better though.  There are refurbished 65-60's around for about $300.
