Title: Needed 250amp DC Disconnect
Post by: faster_freddie on August 03, 2006, 11:43:08 AM
I need a 250amp DC Disconnect to use with our Trace SW4024 inverter.  If you know where I can get one at a good price ($100.00 or so) please let me know.  I'm im Pahrump, NV  89048.

Thanks,
Fred

Fred,
I finally went to a high-end stereo shop after not finding one any where else. The brand is Stinger. They come in 150, 200, 250 Amp versions. I bought the 200 Amp version for 69.99+tax. one benefit is they look pretty also, gold-plate.

Northern Tool and Harbor Freight both have battery disconnects, but they are low amps.

www.jcwhitney.com shows 3, one is listed at 1000 Amps for $30, no. zx 749003w,
one for $19 listed as 500 amps, no zx 150856 y,  Both lockable, and one non locking for $28 no. zx 747827 p with no amperage listed.

I notice the Xantrex Pro Watt 3000 recommends a 400 amp DC fuse. They sell that for 97.50 can or 85.00 US I wonder why the differance??

Fred,

This is the disconnect most of us use.  It's 400 amp. Available from Wytek Wire.  About 112.00

This is a good area not to skimp. I'm cheap but with this high amperage stuff you really have to do it right!  Now being cheap the first option if you have a old bus available is the battery disonnect out of one. That is what I used for one switch, I did not see a rating on them but they are very heavy duty, really built to last. Also on an MCI if you get rid of the road air the selonoid from the AC is rated at 250 amps.
The second option for a lot of this hevy electrical equipment is marine supply places, West Marine, Boat US, Boaters World. They all have catalogs and websites if you do not have one near. They carry Perko switches that are rated at 240 amps  that is 250 amp continuous and 360 amps intermittent. they start at $20 and for $70 you can get a 380 amp continusous  850 amps intermittent this is a 4 position switch and is what I use for my selector switch. They are also a good source for fuse's fuse holders, good tinned cable ends. Pricey but they have the things you need and are high quality.

I needed a disconnect between my house batteries and my inverter....I used a spare factory MCI main electrical switch( the one everyone uses to switch the coach batteries on & off) these should be inexpensive used from Sam Caylor or someone may have an extra lying around......
Hey that was my 100th post! (Since the new board) Wonder how many I had the past four years? :)
