Title: 8V92 progress report w pics
Post by: RickB on February 12, 2010, 03:30:36 PM
Hey all,

Well after testing the injectors with my mechanic I decided to put all new injectors in, the old ones were good on the first pump or two but then they start forming more direct and less atomized patterns. The sound was the real difference though, the new one we compared them to had a very didstinct chirp. The compressor wheel was coming in later today and he had everything else finished, seals, bearings etc. looked great. I have decided to have him do the bellhousing and the harmonic balancer as they require experience and special tools. He's going to do the idler gear while he has the bellhousing off and the front and rear main seals as well.
Here's some pics for your perusal. Clifford everything look normal to you? Curt made a comment about the buildup around the injector tubes that evident in one of the pictures. I also included apicture of the front mount for a bus in his parking lot with an 8V92 so keep your eyes open for me. Thanks off to a Valentines dance with wifey. Dance.... yeah right, and pigs fly right?

Rick, ask Curt what the measurement of the turbine side sealing rings "gap" is?    When you are chasing smoking issues you have to look at the turbine wheel and sealing rings..    Is the cartridge assy minus the compressor wheel?

Zero,

I will ask him but there is no oil down the throat of the intake so it seems unlikely that the leak is on the compressor side. He did say the exhaust side had been leaking a bit. Is that a result of the gap measurement you mentioned and would that be a possible cause of part of the smoke?

Curt said that the jakes were all loose and he's pretty sure that the tune up and new injectors are gonna make a pretty big difference.

Thanks for the expert advice. We can never say thanks enough to you guys.

Rick
