I'm a newbie when it comes to MCI buses. When did they change to the newer series detroits?
thanks in advance.
Alex
I don't know when they changed over, but our 95 DL3 has a S60 and a B500.
God bless,
John
thank you John. reading about the problems (electrical) some have with these engines, has made me a little gun shy. :-\
Problems, what problems?
I think Series 60 Detroits were introduced into buses in 1994. The first ones came with the Allison 740 series transmissions. Later 1994 got the 6 speed Allison B500 that could utilize the 4 cycle engine low end torque better.

All depends on the model the 1993 102 DL had a 60s with a Allison 746 the MCI 12 kept the V692- 2 stroke till 1998 all the hiway coaches manufactures started the change over in 1993 and 1994
good luck

No doubt, as soon as there are electrical issues, it could get tough. We feel blessed, because we haven't had an issues yet.
As for me, I like that S60. But it does sound wimpy.
God bless,
John
