Title: Wanted Combined Fast idle solinoid, Jakes buffer switch for 6V92 mechanical
Post by: Aussiecoach on February 11, 2010, 10:38:26 PM
Hi

I finally got to the bottom of my fast idle problem. It appears someone has replaced the combined Fast idle solinoid/Jakes buffer switch with just a Jakes buffer switch. As these where only really used on Coaches in Australia I'm not having much luck finding one.

Where these used much over your way? Would anyone here have one surplus to their needs, they would like to sell?

Thanx in advance
Glen

Glenn, the combo switch was used on about all coaches here with AC, that switch is very expensive
now and most are replacing it with just a buffer switch.
Now you will need a air supply from a skinner valve as they are electric over air
Fwiw the combo unit cost over 600 US dollars now how bad do you need fast idle 2 strokes don't like it any way.

good luck

That's interesting.....  I just have the buffer switch and no fast idle.
I was beginning to feel guilty not having a fast idle but maybe not??
      Thanks, Iver.

Always wondered about this.  Do modern (>1960) buses not have a throttle cable, and would that not work as a fast idle when needed?  I know my old bus does and I have used it during air up etc...

Of course, Dallas's high tech solution is the most practical.  My high idle is electric over air and Don was looking for a Jake high idle switch at a reasonable price, but did not find one.  Pac Brake actually sells some after market Jake parts, but apparently not that.  Anyway, some people have set up cruise control to do fast idle if they want.  It seems that the experts here suggest not idling anymore than needed to air up anyway.
