The weight limits are the key. Stay with national name brands so you'll have access to parts and repairs every where, and watch your weight limits. Other wise look or the best price...Cable

The Aventa is a 10,000 lb tow bar do you need 10,000 lbs tow bars have a 25% safety factor built into the units  if you just need 5000 lbs buy a 5000 lb tow bar

good luck

Jack try www.hitchtrader.com (http://www.hitchtrader.com) there might be a good tow bar on there, and brackets as well .

Also look on Craigs' List.

The tow bars can usually be found. The correct brackets maybe another thing.

I just weld receiver tubes to the frame and my Roadmaster and plow fit all the trucks.

I have an Aventa II.  It's great! I tow my explorers with it.

I love my 6000# roadmaster setup, but make sure you have the correct mounting brackets. Towbars are easy to find, brackets to fit your vehicle are trickier and with most newer vehicles and plastic bumpers etc not many can just be 'welded' to the frame. The brackets are engineered for the specific vehicle they are intended for. The bracket assembly for my Liberty was about 20 braces connecting to the frame, the mounting bolts for the rack, etc, etc. Goodluck, Will

As mentioned, due to uni-body construction and lots of plastic, vehicles often need specific baseplate attachments to the toad.  It may be that if you go with a Blue Ox tow bar, you will need their baseplate too.  Nothing wrong in that, just be aware that you need to look for both parts rather than just the tow bar.  We have a Stowmaster 5000 on our Cherokee.  It works fine, but the towbar stays on the toad rather than on the bus as with Blue Ox.

Jack,

I have used an Aventa II since 2007. I tow a Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 pick up truck. The bar and mounting plates have been good to work with.  I also use an Air Force One supplemental braking system. I had that installed in April 2008. While unhooking, I have only broken my watch crystal once - then I started taking it off when hooking up or unhooking!. That happened when disconnecting the breakaway cable from the front bumper of the truck.

I can really notice the reduced braking effort required of the bus when the pick up is helping out using its brakes. Total hook up time is about five minutes with me doing everything. When the wife pitches in it takes less time than that - teamwork!

Hope you are happy with the setup you get.
