I have a 1976 eagle 05 insured with state farm and I want to get the best for the money. Help with some new insurance. Ideas please, thanks jack
Maybe I should restate, I was asking what insurance co. other bus owners use and if they were better than state farm.
I have state farm insurance for all my vehicles but when I asked them about buses they told me they don't insure bus conversions because they couldn't find them in their books, maybe the agent just doesn't like them don't know but we went with progressive. I have 3 jeep grand cherokees, a dodge truck, 2 bikes, my revcons, and a subaru, all insured with state farm, I've been with them for years and have never had a problem with them but they told me I'd have to look elsewhere to insure the bus.
I have been satisfied with "agreed upon value" with Interstate Ins.

state farm will only insure you if you have a house. we have given our agent pictures and appraissals, but that's not an official "agreed value" becuase i did not talk to anyone other than the agent and i couldn't get an answer on how they would replace it after totaling it out if that happened.
when and if we can get rid of the house, we'll have to go with progressive or interstate, at much higher cost. Other insurance companies won't touch a bus conversion unless it's a "professional" job, and some won't even talk to me about bus conversions, period.
no, i'm not into smudging the truth at all. those claims don't get paid well if at all.
We have Allstate. We had a really large claim several yrs ago, they pd up.
I have USAA. If you qualify for it, I highly recommend it.
Good Sam quoted me a few dollars less but I stayed with the guys I have had for 42 years.
We have Progressive.
I checked with Allstate and they would not insure our truck conversion even though our house and all of the cars have been insured by them since the 60's. I went with Progressive for the truck and then added the bus when we purchased it. Have been very happy with them.
I see that Geico is trying to get into the market. You might try them. They may be hungry to build the market.

State Farm and Allstate are the worst of the bunch.
I insured mine with my auto insurance co, USAA, which is probably the best of all if you are eligible. I didn't call it a bus, I called it a motor home which is the way it is registered. Had no problems whatsoever even though it is now 56 years old.
When you talk to an insurance company don't even use the word, bus, always say motor home.
My insurer before I had the bus, Secura, would insure my bus. I just stuck with them.
I did try to change to Travelers last year, but Travelers wouldn't insure the bus. One agent would do Travelers for everything except the bus, but I decided to stay with Secura for now.
I'm not sure I understand that Tom, my house insurance is also thru state farm and they still said they couldn't insure the bus, they didn't have a listing for Eagle's, the reason given was it wasn't listed in their books so they couldn't give a market value for them, that the value would have to be an appraised value and that didn't go well with their policy. That reason didn't hold water in my book because they also insure my revcons and one of them is a 1978, but that is a S&S and listed in the manuals. I just think they didn't want to bother.
not sure about buses but in my experience (antique unlisted cars) using a broker can get things done that the big name insurance co.s can't/won't. Brokers want the sale more and as they are retailers they shouldn't cost you more (unless you know how to buy insurance wholesale). You will need an appraisal probably but wait 'til your broker has chosen the insurer as they have different criteria and I have had problems where the insurer didn't like an appraiser's credentials and needed prodding to accept the appraisal even though the appraiser was recommended to me by the broker.
We are insured by Progressive, agreed on value based on purchase price.
We've had State Farm for more than 30 years and they covered our bus until we told them we lived in it fulltime. They don't offer a fulltimers policy so we went with Progressive for a few years until we discovered that Hartford through AARP offered a fulltimers package also for much less money. It's very similiar to a homeowners policy and they didn't argue about the insured value because they charge accordingly. We still have the toad insured through SF but after looking at Harfords auto policies that might be changing also. In addition, Hartford sent us a notice this year when we renewed that we also get roadside assistance on the coach at no add'l charge. Something new they just started. We're still keeping our regular towing package just in case lol. Good Luck, Will
I forgot to add, Progressive's rates went up each year even though we never had a claim with them while Hartford's have gone down each year we've been with them. Works for us LOL ;D
