Clifford;   

   Do you have any of the high idle Jake set ups you would sell me or do you know where there are a few of them. My cost is Through the roof. How bout any one else do you have a line on some. one or two or more.

Don, I may have 2  buddy for sure 1 why has that setup went through the roof.
I priced 1 at WW Williams needless to say that engine doesn't have a fast idle WOW

I talked to guy from Detroit dealer yesterday and he said now Mercedees own them look out on the price of parts.

Detroit Diesel has been owned by Diamler since Oct 2000.  Parts prices may indeed be going up, but I doubt it has anything to do with Diamler buying them almost 10 years ago.

Detroit dealers have been doing all the service work in recent years for the Mercedes medium and heavy duty diesel engines in the USA.

The guy in parts had been working there for 20 years i dont know the full story but there has been some sort of a change that includes Mercedes and it di not occur 10 years ago.

Belfert and John, Diamler did not buy the 2 strokes parts till late 2007 GM kept that part and since 2007 after the sell parts have went through the roof.

The two-stroke operation was actually sold to MTU.  That's the more recent change.  The "Detroit" name stays with Daimler, who have the four-stroke operation.

The confusion comes in due to the fact that Detroit has all the on-highway stuff, while MTU is mostly marine and off-highway.  So for on-highway two-strokes, Daimler/Detroit still has the service, but MTU supplies the parts.

That is very true Sean but it is the same pie just a different slice,I have seen cylinder kits go from 135 bucks to 450 bucks since the takeover there is no reason for such increases like a 900 dollar head costing 3000.00 dollars or a 1500 dollar crankshaft at over 4 grand then you have the switch Don is looking for at over 600 bucks now.

One possible explaination is that they want the 2 strokes off the road and scrapped, I couldn't think of any better way to get rid of them than to price them out of reach.

Sorry, I should clarify:  I was not commenting on the price increases, merely trying to straighten out the confusion on who owns what.  My experience is that the parts guys at these dealers don't have a clue and could not care less who owns what company that is supplying their parts; hence the misinformation given to John about "Mercedes" (which is not a company at all, but a brand name).

Not sure which "they" that would be.  MTU has a vested interest in you keeping your two-stroke for years to come, so they can sell you parts.  They know full well that if you replace your old Detroit, it's not going to be with an MTU (except maybe a reman two-stroke Detroit).
