Title: Overnight parking for shuttle launch?
Post by: Sean on January 24, 2010, 09:47:46 PM
Since we are already well positioned in Florida, we've decided to watch the scheduled space shuttle launch in the early morning hours of February 7th, and/or the Delta V launch scheduled for the morning of the 9th.

I'm looking for suggestions on the best place to park the bus the previous evening where we can legally spend the night to watch the launch(es).

I've heard rumors that the A. Max Brewer Causeway, which has a limited amount of shoulder parking for day use, is allowed the night before a launch, even though it is signed and posted no overnight camping.  Can anyone confirm this, and what are the chances that we'd even find a spot there the previous morning?

Any other suggestions?  I know about Jetty Park (probably sold out, and not our first choice anyway) and Manatee Hammock, but we're really looking just for a (free or cheap) parking spot for the night, not a campground.

We plan to watch the launch from our roof deck, so low obstructions to sight lines should not be an issue.

Any and all suggestions welcome; post here or email me.

Oops - Didn't I promise to give you that info - Now I can't recall the last one we were at - but some possibilities are Manzo, Rotary, and Kennedy Point - all are just north of the NASA Causeway - HTH

Sean,
Give Dan McMurphy a call. He is just west of I95 & west of the space center. He might have some good advice on that. You could even stop by to see him. While you're there check out his handy work on my bus. His # is 321-383-779zero. You'll enjoy talking electrical with Dr. Dan too.
