Im running WVO for years now on all my Cars,Trucks,Generators, and finally on my Bus.After going trough a long learning phase and the typical problems,i have my systems working troublefree.all oilsamples look good, and the engines that i opened looked clean.even my old cummins 6bt with 400k on it is still going strong.Searching for members that are doing the same.share problems,ideas......
Anybody running a cummins NTC on it?? (how does the pt system react??)
what about Detroit S60 or Cummins ISM
What temp are you heating your oil to before it hits the fuel pump and rail?I would like to know more about your system.
Thanks,
John
i get about 150 to 160 f before entering the head.
on the bus i did it a little different then on my other engines...
i have 500 gallon with me for my normal trips, that i dont have the trouble searching for it while on the road!
250 on the bus,250 in my trailer with a transfer pump to connect to the bus.
in the engine compartment i have a 17 gallon surge tank.heated with a hot fox fuel pickup.
going then into a 30 plate heat exchanger.then in a 500fh heated filter.
i use 3/4" hydraulic solenoid valves for switching.
i keep the secondary fuel filter on the engine for both.(i know that this keeps purge times up,but i feel that the slower temp change at switchover because the fuel mixes,is better on the head and injectors)
i did this beginning on engines with ve pumps (like vw) as these did not like the temp changes and could shear a shaft.
the detroit is a different beast, but thats me.
fuel return goes into the surge, again with a valve.
the surge tank is controlled by a level valve.when the level is down 5 gallons it will refill from the main wvo tank via shurflow pump.if full it shuts down again.
when im close to shut down the engine,i will shut off the transfer pump to the surge tank.level will go lower.when at half level i will change the inlet to diesel.return fuel will still go into the surge tank.
this way i will clean (purge)the head and injectors.when the surge tank is full,i switch the return valve to the main diesel tanks.
back running as normal on diesel!!!
when i start next day the surge tank will have almost a 50/50 mix,so its thinner and easy to change over.
i will start on diesel.when the engine reached 175 and i see that the thermostats are open and temp has stabilized,i will switch inlet an return to wvo.
i hope i got it all covered here and its not to crazy to understand!!!
You should check with the manufacturers, but most (because of the high injection pressures of newer engines) are suggesting no more then B10-20. Cummins PT system is pretty loose, I would think it would be BioDiesel friendly. Good Luck, TomC
im running straight used Vegetable oil!!!
no biodiesel.i dont like to have these large amounts of methanol or leye sitting around!
im processing between 250 to 2000 gallons a month depending on trips and generator use at home (offgrid)!
depends alsoon how much time i get to spent welding and machining and using all the fun toys!!haha
just wondering how the pt system handles a slightly higher viscous fuel!!
afraid that the throttle response or power is slow or unstable.
if i get it right, the systems is metering injected fuel,by how much the injectors will get kind of preloaded (filled)before the cam activates them!!???
Just me...BUT, I would never run WVO in my S60. That is just too expensive an engine to play with. But then again, you might be richer then I am.
God bless,
John

Where do you come up with that much WVO?
haha,
if i were rich,i wouldnt use wvo as fuel!!!!!
also after all the miles i dont see a reason that im playing with my engine!!
you just have to do it right!!!
growing up in germany, this was the only way for me to afford driving a truck-car while in job training!!
even that there we had svo and thanks to ellsbett they even started to set up filing station and approved it as fuel.i know that wvo is a little different game ,but done right i think is save!!!
from looking into all my other engines its not more harm ,then a low frequented station with lots of water in their tanks or not to start about the emission jokes that happens to the engines and fuel standards.
as for engine prices!!
im getting whole trucks with s60 or ism for less what i save a year driving.
the old detroit is getting rare, but there are more thrown away running for scrap then you think!!
changing the engine and wrenching on the bus is a hobby,so priceless and mostly fun.
even that sometimes a corona or two makes it even more fun!!!
as for the amount im getting
the first years its hard work to set it up and show all your restaurants that you are for real.
but then time will come and you have to say no,to lots off them as you cant take it all.
lots of patience and trying to be in contact is key!!
