Guys looking at the weather in Quartzsite for next week Monday through Friday rain and showers with the high in the 60's we never have rain till some event and a 1/4 of a inch of rain will cause flooding so don't park in any low areas next to a gully.
good luck
If the forecast happens to come true - for a change - then there will be some good entertainment to be had driving around watching guys try to get unstuck. I'm just guessing but this powder we're parked on looks like it will turn into greased snot when it rains. Keep yer cameras charged up guys.
My motto out in the desert is, If you are low, GET HIGH! ;D and it doesn't have to be raining where you are to be washed away :o, The rain from a passing storm a few miles away can catch you by surprise with a roaring wall of H2O. Clifford doesn't worry much about that stuff ;D LOL though, He drops the levelers and Viola! sitting high and dry like an off shore oil rig ;D ;D ;D. You Texans, got it goin on! ;)
I have been holding off on washing the bus until just before we leave, because i know that as soon as i do it will rain. :)
Sorry, guys. I guess we brought the bad weather down with us. I thought we left it back home, but nope. It appears that it hid in our bays, and got loose when I changed the genny oil yesterday :D. I really did try to keep it in...sorry guys.
But, here in Tucson, I hear that they are six inches behind, so they are looking forward to the rain.
God bless,
John
OK, I know for a fact that BOTN and Stormcloud are idling and waiting for the gate to open, save Mrs. Jones a high spot, will ya Boys? M&C
John, I love the scent of the desert after a rain and then the flowers bloom after the rain also very nice indeed.
If they do have rain Rice Ranch will be mess with all the washes from the Sept rain they just leveled out with no compaction me I am going to park on the pavement somewhere.
Good luck
I was just teasing, Clifford.
Actually, it rained just a bit here in Tucson, and it did smell incredible. We don't get that kind of smell back home. It was very nice.
God bless,
John
Sometimes rain happens, even at a bluegrass thing lol.
John,I know but I think you did bring this with you or it could have been Christy LOL.
Watch the desert John we have plants here that will flower every time it rains and they will do that all year long.
good luck
For those that are on the road traveling, here is a link to the weather service that I use
http://www.weathertap.com/ (http://www.weathertap.com/)
there is a free trial of 14 days and can provide real time data, satellite, radar all real time info and helps when trying to route yourself around these storms,I have just renewed my subscription at 7.95 a month. I have no connection to Weather tap.com, but thought this would be helpful to all at the Q that have internet down there. good luck and we'll see ya down the pike ;D
Why pay twice, when you have already paid the National Weather Service to get the info for you?
Start with this URL, then plug in whatever city you want to know about:
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Lodi&state=CA&site=STO&textField1=38.1303&textField2=-121.271&e=1 (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Lodi&state=CA&site=STO&textField1=38.1303&textField2=-121.271&e=1)
For the really big picture, try the NWS warnings page:
http://www.weather.gov/view/nationalwarnings.php?map=on (http://www.weather.gov/view/nationalwarnings.php?map=on)
The weather here changes so fast I never know what to think. My best weather information I have ever received is this. If I step outsides and it's sunny, it's going to be a good day, if it's raining, it's raining. ::)
The 1st BLACK CLOUDS have just appeared here in San Diego and the wind is starting to blow. BOTN, did you get in the gate yet? ;D M&C
Sorry, but I can't take the blame for rain, if it were MY fault, it would have been SNOW!!! :D
So, am I in danger sitting in Quartzite Market Place, N. Side of Kuehn, east side of 95¿??? Inquiring minds, you know. Hate to have this new purchase float away tooooooo quickly!!! Christy
First off Christy I hate to break it to you like this but ............... weather forecasts have been known to be (gasp) WRONG.
Second if we're in trouble here then it probably won't matter. I'll sleep well all week. I think we're in significantly more danger of having a generator walk away than we are of floating away.
Even if the forecast turns out to be right the worst of it is predicted for Phoenix and NE.
Bob, I would roll my awning up we are supposed to get it here around midnight so about 5 am you should have it there
good luck
Well we just got our first taste of rain here in San Diego, it started about an hour ago and was very light. 1st wave???? Be safe, M&C ;D

FWIW: The WEATHER Man is the only person I know of that can be consistently wrong, and still be paid damn good! ;)
;D BK ;D
It was raining here at 7 too Clifford but it has quit and there's a high overcast that you can almost see through in places. If you look at the horizon it looks like it might actually start to break up but like BK says - forecasting the weather is a mug's game.
BOTN and Stormcloud, about all I can say is no matter how much rain you get,..........you lucky ######
wish I was there. Have fun guys. above freezing here the last few days believe it or not, actually melted quite a bit and -7 for highs over the next few days, let those warm winds blow.
Grant
So how bad / wet is it there? M&C
Here at Quartzsite Market Place it's just barely damp. . .we had some very light rain at 3:00 a.m., again around 5, again around 7, but then only sprinkled once or twice during the day for just a teeny bit. . supposedly it's supposed to rain tommorrow and then again on Thursday, but then again, who really knows. Christy
If it helps any Grant we wish you were here too. We had a great day of visiting, troubleshooting and fixing. I'll get some pix up on my weblog later tonight and maybe tomorrow I'll get some bus porn to post here.

Post a pic of your new toy when you can! I don't want to wait for TBR 2010 to see it!
Paul
Well, I have a confession to make. . there's few things I like better than the sound of rain on the roof. .. . I don't know why, but I just LOVE that sound of gentle rain on a metal roof. One of my biggest disappointments with the major remodel we did on our home was we had to go back with asphalt shingles instead of the metal roof we had previously. :'( I just loved that sound.
I woke up at 3:00 and listened to it rain, and then again a couple of more times, but it was good, it was all good. :D
I'll start a new topic and post a pic of the new purchase here soon. . .that way people can ignore it if they're not interested, as compared to the Quartzsite posts, which will be more pertinent to most of the people here. Course, you COULD just drive on down here :). . there's still time, ;) ha ha.

You guys have about another 20-30 minutes left of cloud cover, then clear skies for a bit get out and star gaze ;) it's a b uteful thing ;D
12:30 The RAIN has started again here in San Diego. Med. & steady coming your way. M&C ;D
Its very kind of you to send it on inland but its been a decent day here despite your efforts to the contrary. We've got some high overcast now and a bit of wind but no rain so far.
Well BOTN, we are doing our best here to pull as many drops out of the clouds as they race bye so it will be nice and dry when we get there. And we must be dancing up a storm cause it is coming down in sheets. ;D M&C
Its not coming down in sheets here.....more like by the pillowcasefull.
I thought it didnt rain (often) in the desert...... Just our luck, I guess...
..and I think I heard the rain bouncing off Christy and Larrys new coach this morning too...lolol
The cinnamon rolls were sure good.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Wish you all were here....
Mark
Hey Mark, We, Christi, Mrs. Jones & I will be there very soon. I hope you saved me a cinnamon roll? The rain has slowed so here in SD (Ramona) The wind got one of our old oaks last night. Lots of mud to remove off the streets here in the resort. Did I say " I wish I was there? M&C
Mark, just checking the Doppler, and looks like you folks are at the end of system 2 shortly enjoy the stars ;D
Van
rain has finally stopped here so it should stop in Qs in a hour hang on for the winds Wed next rain on Thur
sorry Bob but we need the rain.
good luck guys stay dry this doesn't happen often
I dunno what kind of drugs they have over there in that MCI but for all its rained on the frenchy-bus there was more water ran out of my 8-92 last winter in New York. If this is what they call a rain here then its no wonder its a desert. Its rained enough to lay the dust but that's about all here.
Clifford I swore a solemn oath during the drought of 86 that I would never again complain about rain. I've been sorely tested a few times since then but this isn't even on my radar. And WTH are you doing still in Mojave? There's Eagles here and they need you. I couldn't believe my eyes this afternoon - someone had the doors open on his Eagle and he was pulling wrenches on it. I didn't realize they ever needed that. Some of his buddies were crowded around so us SOB owners couldn't see what was going on.
Calm now in SD. M&C ;D
I hope this one misses Quartzsite it is a nasty one I now live on Lake Mohave anyone for windsurfing .
Van's bus is setting in about 6 inches of water he may need Great Western Towing to make Quartzsite lol just kidding Van it is only 5 inches
good luck
Oh boy! :o ya had me going there for a second Clifford ;D ;D Only 5 inches? I'll bring the floaty's and and snorkle LOL ;D, I know i'm goin out on a limb here, but I'm with BOTN, fooey on the rain. ;D ;D ;D

Clifford,
You are supposed to be in the big Q right now...what's up?
God bless,
John
I'm sure it can still happen here but it hasn't rained enough to amount to anything yet. Today was gorgeous with clear blue skies until mid afternoon. Then it clouded over but we haven't had any rain since about this time last night.
The rain has started again
Oh don't I know, there was a group of harley riders headed to Vegas a couple of years ago I think, that Got taken out bad by a flash flood that crossed hwy 93 up by Rosie's Den. that's alot of water.
Well, it is early Thursday morning, and it is raining very hard. Heard at the motel that it had be raining all night.
Weather map does not look good.
Jim
It has rained all night here in Ramona, CA (SD). At sometimes, Very hard. It is 5:45 am and it is raining steady. Boy it is going to be fun hooking up in this stuff! ;D M&C
Hell or high water, Right?
It Rained most of the night. We are not going to let a little rain spoil are party. As of 7:00 the coffee is on and I will pick up the doughnuts in 30 minutes.
Donuts?? I like Donunts. Larry, Bob, Mark, Save one for me! :P We are on our way soon. ;D M&C
Our problem is the highway is closed from home to Needles then from Needles to Vidal in some areas
good luck
Do you think the 95 North from Yuma to the Q is ok?
Mike, I checked with the AZ DOT just a few low water crossing to cross with caution other than those it is ok pay attention to the high water gauge at the low areas and drive safe
good luck
Thank you very much, M&C ;D
For those who are absent here, last night rain washed our bus clean and shine, and holding down desert dust calm and clean. The sun is to pup out of morning haze in any minute. This morning donut and coffee gathering executed as planed and successfully.
This is going to be another great day in Quartzsite.
Wherever you are, have a fantastic day.
AJ
that's just too weird, the Doppler shows the cloud sparting just as it reaches Q ;D ;D
The sun was out for a while but its hiding again and the wind is getting up a bit now. I've seen worse - a lot worse as a matter of fact. I've been watching Accuweather since this thread started and it has consistently said that Thursday would be the worst day of the week. What "worst" would consist of has changed almost daily but Thursday has consistently been the worst predicted day for Q. The rain really hasn't amounted to anything yet but the wind is a bit annoying. Mind you, I've never been a fan of wind so I might not be an impartial reporter.
If you don't get the thunder storms your ok here in the desert with a slow rain it will run off but we got hit with thunder storms and a lot of water.
You wait about 2 weeks this place will be beautiful when the plants flower
good luck
It sure as heck raining here in Yuma and has done so most of the night. The wind joined in the AM to make it more interesting. I had to get some wooden blocks for stepping stones to the bus door. Jerry
It should be an interesting trip down to the Q, with what ever amount of rain we encounter, it will be propelled by what is forcasted to be 20-30mph gust to 45. Thank goodness it is not snow.

We have been here since late oct. We are out at laposa south. Are you in the area? The bus has been running great. Life is good.
Hey Bobsw glad you are enjoying it down there. We aren't gonna make it this year. Judy still has to get shots in her eye every few weeks so we're stuck for now. Hopefully that'll be over next year and we can head that way..You guys take care and enjoy the weather. We been in the 50's and 60's for weeks now, alittle wind, alittle rain, nuthin new....Cables
Looks like some nasty wind gusts at the moment according to the weather maps. Hope it gets better soon for you all.

Wise choice Clifford! I've seen it rain in AZ and the washes turn into rivers. When I lived in Lake Havasu in 92 I didn't see it rain once in 9 months.
Be Safe!
Paul
Well, I guess the rain wasn't just BOUNCING off of our new coach. . . from what I hear it was LAPPING AT THE WHEELS :D.
We're on our way back from Phoenix, because, after most of the day spent doing business paperwork, listening to it rain on the roof, Larry and I decided to make a quick run to Phoenix late this afternoon.
Ahem, it seems that while we were gone, the ditch in front of where we are parked ran a little higher than expected ??? and as per our next door neighbor, it was lapping at the wheels of the new Prevost :o. I remarked to Larry, "Wouldn't you know! I haven't even had time to get the appraisal forms filled out and sent it and the damn water'll wash it away for sure! >:(" ha ha.
After a few frantic phone calls between various friends on site, :P we've come to the understanding that although it did wash our tires, the water has now receded and we should have no problems getting back home and having a place to sleep tonight. Whew! 8)
I think I'm kind of glad I wasn't there to see the threat to my jalopy, and I'm also glad I wasn't standing next to Sonny watching the culvert between him and us get washed away :o. Oh well, guess they plan on putting it back tomorrow. Yippee. . . fun in the desert in Quartzsite! :D ;D Christy Hicks
Christy, Are you going to do the Q writeup for the BCM? Someone with your verbal talent should be a snap! ;D
Made any brownies lately? ;)
Stat dry!
Paul
HAHAHHA, well, Paul, I was INSPIRED by the circumstances! It was quite, errrr, "exciting" when the AT&T tower went down and anyone with AT&T phones couldn't get them to work, which means, anyone calling them couldn't get through, and if you're in Phoenix, 1 1/2 hrs away from here, and you lose Bob and you lose Sonny, and you lose Larry G. . . well, THAT even makes it MORE, ahem, interesting. ???
I was able to connect with both Sonny and Bob when we left Phoenix, and understood that the water was starting to recede and our hoopy was fine. With a bit of trepidation, we turned off the highway and down the road to Kuehn, hoping we'd be able to get through, but crapola, about 1/2 way to the campground the road is barricaded and we can see a patrol car's flashing red and blue lights. So, we turn around and decide to try to go around and come in from the other side. Larry keeps asking me what we're going to do if they won' tlet us back to our bus and I'm thinking, "man, I KNEW I should have brought clean underwear with us when we left!" :D
We came down 95 and turned onto Kuehn, sure enough, barricades there too. Hmmmm, no flashing lights, no police, I turned to Larry and whispered, "Sneak in there past those barricades!" (I whispered so that no one would hear us, sneaking in ;). )
We pulled up to the drive, eyed the river running across it, eyed our big beautiful coach with the nice, comfortable Termpurpedic mattress just WAITING for us on the OTHER side of that river, and that's all she wrote. We crawled through that water, dashed over to the coach, jumped in the shower and slithered into bed, stretched out and said, "Yep, it's GOOOOOOD to be home!" ;D
You guys may not be out of the woods yet we had a nasty one come through here about 8 am
good luck
Dose anyone know what the wind got up to yesterday? It sure looked like a hurricane just south of town.
On the Wanderlodge forum they were talking about 75 mph gusts, and some tornadoes. Sure glad to keep hearing from you guys. I have to ask, seriously, what is the whole point of Quartzsite anyway? It just looks like a big desert with a lot of RV's on it. Is there a big show, or something? Or is it as simple as a cool place to meet a bunch of friends? I've just never heard of it before, is all.
Brian
Huge RV show you can see and buy about all that is on the RV market, huge rock show, flea markets on every corner service for RV's and can buy anything for RV's from inverters to generators, tanks, pump , furniture you name it you will find there good buys on AGM batteries there.
The weather is good most of the time in the 60's and up.

I think that people go to Quartzsite because other people go to Quartzsite. Then there's an RV show in Quartzsite because people go to Quartzsite. And there are dozens (maybe 100s) of rallies in Quartzsite because people go to Quartzsite. As to why people go to Q in the first place, its a long story kind of like the chicken & the egg but now I think its just because people go to Quartzsite.
The first time we came here we swore we'd never come back but we've been back pretty well every year for over 15 years now, mainly because people go to Quartzsite. Its just what you do if you are in an RV in the western US at about this time of the year.
Another word on Thursdays weather. Lisa and I came over the mountains with M&C. The wind was from the south. I don't know the speed but it blew a sandstorm of wet sand obscuring the road. The bus was stable but the passengers were annoyed and uneasy with the constant buffeting. It blew the mirror glass out of the passenger side rearview mirror.
When we headed north on 95 with the tail wind just off the back of the bus to the drivers side. It was strong enough that it blew water in the rear seal of drivers sliding glass and this continued until about 30 mph speed.
The best thing about the 'tall tail' wind is, I arrived with more fuel that I left with. ;)
As to the question about why the Q? One of the reasons, that people come here is partially location. It is an easy drive and possibly the closest stop to Los Angeles and surrounding population outside of CA.
Mike
Let's face it Mike - the real reason people come to Quartzsite is because Michael Hargis is performing here at 4:00 today. And he brought hit-it-honey with him.
We are considering go to Q now from LA, can anyone tell me what the conditions are at Q now (Friday)? Muddy, raining, etc.? Thanks!
Right now, no rain all day although it is cloudy and we may get some tonite. Been drying out all day, ground in most places is ok from what i have seen. Tomorrow is supposed to be better.
Well, Quartzsite is the type of place you can buy a big, mounted moose name Morty and an elk named Elvis! You think I'm kidding don't you. :D Christy Hicks

Quartzsite is the place that people who spend a half million $ on a coach and look for a place to camp for free so they can shop for bargains at the flee markets.

Well guys and gals, the storms didn't empty all of the water out of the clouds. It's now here in Abilene TX, and we need all we can get! :) 85 yesterday, raining today! ::)
Paul
I keep reading about Q and now I figure I've got to check it out at some point, I'm thinking I probably will need solar(how much I don't know yet) before I can do a winter or part of one without hookups, I can already go over a week, almost 2 weeks on my tanks so thats doable I think but the kicker is the solar, I'll have to figure that one out. Q isn't going to happen this year and next year would really be a stretch too. Way to much to learn about solar still, I'm seeing at least 3 different kinds of panels, all at different prices, some are even talking about flexible panels, so still way to much for this feeble old brain to soak up lol. I also hear bad things about the wind turbines as being uncomfortably noisey, at 500 a pop for 400 watts or so that would be an option too but still a lot to learn about them.
Well yesterday morning we are sitting in the bus drinking our coffee and people watching when the guy in front of us comes out and starts cleaning off the back window of his car. Turns out that what we thought was dew was in fact frost. Brrrrr!!!! :o We go by the, "if we see frost we are outta here" rule. Good thing we were planning on leaving in a couple of hours anyway! :) Made the run back down to Yuma and are glad to be back in the banana belt. ;D
Ed, you big pansy Lol I left Sat night I knew it was going to be cold Sunday nice and warm here in the valley
good luck
Clifford, i knew when it cleared off that the temps would drop more at nite, but i still wasn't expecting frost.....and yup, i make no bones about it. I am a pansy, wuss, or any other name that can be applied to me when it comes to the cold. :) On the other hand i can handle heat a lot easier than a lot of other folks who then become "wilted pansies " etc., themselves. ;D We all have our own comfort ranges......mine just happens to be tropical but i can make do with desert ok too. Not even interested in alpine or tundra except for a visit in summer.......maybe. ;D
Yep Ed the heat feels good these on old bones, cold is for refrigerators and Ac's also for the guys from up north walking around in shorts in Quartzsite Lol
good luck
I have to agree with that it's no frost here in Yuma and I like it . the rain was the worst that I have seen here tho the first time I've seen the satellite TV drop clear out in a rain storm. Jerry
You have my complete sympathy lol.
It IS kind of poopy that we drive ALL the way to Arizona, and we've pretty much used up all of our long sleeved shirts because it's been so cool! Boy, if it weren't for that fire in the evenings, there would have been a LOT less hanging around and chatting after dark around here, ha ha.
ONTH, we had a great time and will be here another day or two and then may head south trying to locate some warm weather before working our way back to Oklahoma. So far, the new office girl has done great and hasn't cried once, so we're going to GRADUALLY work our way home instead of hauling butt for the Oklahoma border! Christy Hicks
Jerry, i have seen that happen many times in Wa. and a few times here in Yuma, but not very often..... ;D A couple of winters ago we went 157 days down here with out a drop of rain. My kind of weather!
Of course don't forget to throw in a couple of dust storms and an earthquake or two Jerry
Well it is January 25th after all.
