Well my mechanic agrees that the cylinder kits at least have lo miles on them.

Can any of you see the oil pan well enough in the pictures to agree with me that I will be finding a shallower pan for this for my MCI 9?

My mechanic has a out of frame 6V92 to do next week but we hope to get the turbo (he's rebuilding my old one) and the rebuild kit in the blower and with a little plumbing we'll be ready to start her up. Sure hope it runs good.

Thanks again for all the help,

Rick

Looks great all cleaned up Rick!  I bet you are pleased to get Curt's confirmation of the cylinder condition as well.  Did he give any of his own theories on the oil sludge build up?

Rick, I am getting outrageous prices on shipping UPS will only ship if boxed and it exceeds the weight limit for all the parts and the carriers are out of this world for shipping on a pallet.
It may be cheaper for you to buy a Hayden cooler or find a cooler off a 6v92 it will work.
I can break it down in different shipments and get prices if you like let me know.

good luck

Clifford,
I may be flying down to florida in the next month or so maybe I should rent a truck and drive them back. Or are any snowbirds gonna make their spring return flight anywhere near here? I should probably check with JD at C&J and my mechanic they may have everything here between them but that starter sure sounded promising. I know Curt has the valve covers and he may have the bellhousing if this one turns out to be different than mine and JD thinks he has a cradle.

I was quoted $2500 to ship the motor from North Carolina to here and then I checked one of those combined load companies (there's a word for it but I can't remember it)nand it got alot more reasonable and that motor weighs 3500 lbs.

I really wanted to go with you and zero's suggestion with the TV 8511 but the cheapest I could find a rebuilt one was $1115 before shipping. My mechanic will rebuild mine for $400 and he's local so his warranty is actually pretty darn good. He figures he's rebuilt between 100 and 150 and he's never had one come apart. Since the coolest thing about this motor was how reasonably I bought it for it kind if defeats the purpose to spend more on a turbo than the whole motor.

He is gonna rebuild my turbo and blower for around a grand. He let's me work in his shop too which is really fun. These guys are like you Clifford they live and breath 2 stroke Detroits and their knowledge shows it.

Looking forward to hearing that old girl spring to life. Kind of a dream come true.

Well G'night all

Rick

Hey, looks like there's still an oil filter on that engine. You could get a sample from that for testing.

Where are the parts Clifford has?  I have a friend in AL. He has a place in FL, and I expect he'll go down there one more time before he comes back up here for the summer. He probably
won't be coming up here till April, but I'm sure he'd be willing to bring the parts with him.

Be sure that the air box drain tubes drain down to the ground and not back into the oil pan.  My 1980 8V-92TA originally had this, and if the cylinder kits leak, coolant will be introduced into the oil.  Just cut them off and allow them to drain to the ground.  Good Luck, TomC

Do I just take the sample to the cummins shop here at 694 and white bear avenue or do i have to get the test kit first?

Also, how long do these test's take to get the results

Talk to your friend about the florida connection maybe it'll make sense.

Tom C. good call on the airbox drains I'll look into that. I already built some drains out of pvc pipe and mounted them to the frame rails but one of them melted last summer. Go figure.

Brian D. It does look alot better cleaned up and I am going to have Curt do the front and rear seals to keep it that way! A pressure washer and some engine degreaser never really occurs to many dump truck drivers. Hmmm wonder why?

Thanks for the input,

Rick
