Title: South Eastern Busnut Needs our Thoughts & Prayers
Post by: orfunauto/Darrell on January 03, 2010, 05:47:49 PM
Hello folks,

Below is a copy and paste from an email I received from Gene Lewis better half.  Please keep him in your prayers.

"This past Tuesday, 12/29, I was placed in Wake Med Hospital's Cardiac Unit with Conjictive Heart Failure.
Servere swelling in the legs an extreme shortness of breath. The problem manefested itself starting on Christmas Day.
During the examination it was determined that the old ticker was slightly out of rhythm and the BP was elevated so they R using meds to get the ticker back in sink.  If meds don't do it then they will shock it @ 10:00 Monday morning.  May be going home on Monday-but only if they have done all they can at this point.
2 top that what was slight leaking heart valve in '01, has become a severe leaking valve which is going to require a valve replacement sometime in the not too distant future.

God is Big and in charge and I am convince He has me where He wants me and He is not thru with me yet therefore we are going forth looking forward to what He has in store for us in 2010.
I do covet your prayers.

Gene

I pray that HE will continue to watch over you, and to keep you in the palm of HIS Hand. When HE is in control, we know that things will happen to us, but never will it be anything that is not for HIS Glory.

Prayers will continue until a further report is posted, and we will believe that you and those around you will be blessed through it all.

Continue to let us know how you are doing.

Gene

I Hope you do as well as i. Maybe you will do better because I don't think you will have the problem with waking up and seeing two devils in the room with you.

Good luck and well being.

ned

All,

Below is a copy and paste from an email I received from Gene today.  Good news!

"I was discharged from WakeMed Hospital late Monday afternoon arriving home a round 6:00 PM.  Just a might worn out but back home non-the-less.  Despite the wonderful Dr's, Nurses and staff, who really watched over me very closely, I was whopped and so was Frances because she did not leave me. She had to be gone for a couple of hours but my kids took up the slack.

I went in with congestive heart failure straight from the Dr's office.  Severe shortness of breath, NO energy flat wore out with the heart out of rhythm.  They immediately started me on fluids, keeping a CLOSE eye on my BP and adjusting meds as needed and then starting drawing blood at intervals of 4 – 6 hrs around the clock

On Tuesday I swallowed a camera and they took a close look at my heart from the inside looking for possible clots or clot build-up; they found none so they proceeded to shock the heart back into rhythm – no luck!  They have me on medications that are supposed to do it.

They also found that the leaking heart valve that was mild is now severe.  This problem will be deal with at a later date.

On Monday, Jan. 4 they tried shocking it heart again – No Luck!  Then they scheduled me for a breathing evaluation (WOW that was interesting-could not have done it when I went in.  After that they started the discharge process.

I have not really feel up to using the computer until this morning about 7:00 AM.  Have had 2 wonderful nights sleep.  I was feeling great when I got home but even better today.

My heart is still out of rhythm but I am on medicine for it. Congestive heart failure is currently under control.  We have been given a 6 month (hopefully) window to loose some weight to make me an "optimal surgical candidate".  Dr said the smaller I am the easier the operation will be me. So the "new life eating" starts now.  Nutritionist suggested the South Beach Diet and it is in force as I write this.  My attitude is great;
I have overwhelming support from family and friends.  Surgical date to correct the leaking valve will be based on heart condition & weight loss.  We R on a new journey and "I have decided to make it an exciting journey"!

God is good and He has given me a second chance, and for that I am grateful.  He continues to care for me and my family.  THANK YOU JESUS!

The prayers of family and our friends have been sustaining us.

THANK YOU for your thoughts, prayers, visits and phone calls --- I can guarantee You that they were felt and appreciated on this end. I firmly believe that I am here and feeling GREAT because of them.

You R in our prayers also,

Gene & Frances

PS. This statement has new meaning:
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body,
But
rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out for Jesus, and loudly proclaiming...
"WOW Lord! What a ride!"[/color]

Glad to hear that they have a handle on your problems. I just went through tripl by-pass surgery this summer. It is amazing what the Docs can do these days. It seems from your writing that you are a believer and that in itself makes all the difference in the world. The way I dealt with everything wa s knowing the I was a winner either way.
