Hello all! Our Neoplan an440 (6v92ta v731) has an air starter...a recent post on here has me wondering how can I start this baby if the batteries did go dead? It has a solnoid right on the tank up above the engine bay but i see no way to let air through without juice! Any heads up appreciated  as i don't have da book for anything!

Jump the solenoid with an external battery.  Good Luck, TomC

You should have 2 wires running from the solenoid to studs covered with caps some where on the bus if not run you 2 and make a junction box someplace 12V will open a 24V solenoid. Check around the emergency fill  from the tank most of the time that is where it is located

In Big Transit, we used to have a smaller solenoid mounted in the engine room that had no bottom on it.

A pencil pushed upward into the bottom activated the system.

They retrofitted covered ones, due to the safety issues of the trick bypasses the starter inhibit for the transmission being in neutral.... Or some fool would try to start it with the ignition still turned off, emptying the tank...

Far away and long ago... has me wondering, was that a smaller solenoid that in turn activated the big valve pneumatically? There were only small lines leading to it...IIRC. GM 5307's from the factory.

Oh the many things I wish I'd paid more attention to earlier in life's experiences!

I was just talking with Mr. Bowen and asked him the question.  He said that on most of the ones he had seen there was a manual pull type valve at or near the starter for starting without electric.

Thanks Everyone! I'm going to take a look tomorrow and check it out! would be nice to know if anything ever goes wrong!
