Title: Orion Bus
Post by: Don Fairchild on December 12, 2009, 08:28:00 AM
Does any body have a wiring diagram for a 1990 Orion bus, We would like to install a Jake on the 6V92 and I need to find the wires for the Jake if they installed them at the factory.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Don

Don, I would think a 1990 would be a DDEC.  If so, the wiring would be DDC wiring schematic as opposed to Orion wiring (assuming Orion made the loom according to the DDEC spec.).  If that is all correct, you probably have the wires in the driver area.

Jim;

It's DDEC II, the DDC schematic I have shows OEM responsiblity for the vehicle interface harness. It shoes as wire 508 cavity A-1. I need to look at the bus schematic to see if they put the wire in at the factory. On some of the early Eagles they put in the wire but did not hook it up if the engine did not have Jakes to start with, I am wondering if Oreon did the same thing. The bus is not here I am doing this by e-mail and would like to help if I can.

Thanks

Don

Don, any information on the bus itself - primarily the original purchaser?  All the Orions I'm familiar with are transits, and I've never run into Jakes on a transit.  I have run into various hydraulic/electric retarders, but never an engine brake.

That said, with 40 years in the business there are things I haven't seen.  If the original owner was a transit authority in the US, it may be one of my clients - so I may know a little about the original user.

EDIT---
Perhaps I wasn't clear on why I made the comment and asked the question.  Orion's quality has been up and down over the years.  Even so, I would be surprised if they ran wires for something that none of their customers ever used.  I can understand why Eagle would, but over-the-road use is significantly different than transit needs.  My new car has the wiring for daytime running lights, because it's an option for some customers.  It doesn't have the wiring for a refrigerator, because that's not an option on that model.

On the other hand, if they did have a customer that wanted Jakes, that'd be a good transit trivia question.

Don is trying to add a Jake and is trying to find out if the Jake wiring exists in the wiring harness.

Hello:    I have 2 89 orion 1 transits with cummins mechanical engine and originally zf trannys converted to bigger cummins with the b400r.   The extra wires you might want are probably not there if these coaches are indicative of the installed wiring.  not much extra but it really depends on the customer specs because they were built to what the customer wanted.  you may find 4 wires to the rear area upper left terminal strip(looking at the rear top bay) that went to the ac system for interlocks.   The door interlock circuit may have some wires that are not used because of the conversion..
Running a cable undrneath is not difficult for this coach as it is a C channel frame. The inside wiring channel to the rear is on the left when sitting in the drivers seat and runs behind the driver back to the rear wheels.  If that is still in place and accessible then installing a cable ther would work but is goes below the floor by the rear wheel and has to be pulled alomg the frame.
    Hope this helps..
    Regards and happy busssin   mike
