Just bought a 94 45 foot eagle off ebay. Have not picked it up yet or paid for it. Was wondering if anyone has any info on bus or what I should look for, when I go to see it. Vin is R2519VAA. Think it is a Hurcueles conversion limo. Thanks for any help. Rick
Hi Rick,
Welcome to our little corner of the world! I don't have the build sheets for that year mine only go to 88, but I'm sure Clifford will be able to help you. With Eagle in the title, he's not far behind. ;)
I sent you a PM BTW,
Paul
Thanks Paul, Knew I could get some help here.
Rick,
Can you send me the ebay item number?
I think Clifford is on the road, I'll see if I can reach him.
Paul
Hi Rick,
That is not an original Eagle VIN number. It is probably an older Eagle that was converted and retitled as a 94 model.

If that's the case, there is also a pretty good chance that it was stretched and/or widened from a forty footer. Some people did a great job with a stretch but I would be very cautious.

Very interesting, looks like a raised driver. It would be nice to see if the origianal VIN# could be found somewhere. Dan, any idea on where he could look?
Paul
Thanks for the replies guys. That is the right ebay listing. Pretty sure it is a rebuild, does not have push button shifter, has the leaver kind. Also do not know if it is 102" or not. Cant get much info from the people selling it. I want to trun it into a motor home type and thought this would be a good place to start. Think it is a Hercules conversion, does any one know about their workmanship? Thanks for help, going to see it next tuesday. Rick
Rick,
As best I can tell from the pictures it looks like a 96". If it was widened the drive wheels would be slightly inside the fender flare, unless they widended the axle, also. I know there is a thread somewhere that shows pictures of both, but I can't remember the title to search for it. Anyone remember that thread? Actually, it may be on the Eagle International board, but I just can't remember.
If that bus runs ok, you scored a great price. Congratulations!! and welcome to the community. I just drove through Celeste a few months ago. Wish I would have seen it.

IIRC, isn't the OEM VIN riveted/stamped into one of the RH frame rails in the engine compartment on Eagles?
Also IIRC, aren't vehicles built after 1980 supposed to have a 17 digit VIN?
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
If it is a late model bird last 7 numbers should be in the 70000 series, thought those numbers didn't jive.
Here's a good starter ;)

Rick, if the bus is really in Celeste TX, just NE of McKinney, then I'm about 65 miles away. It's always good to know who's in the area if you need some help when you go to pick up the coach.
Arthur
Van,
The last recored I have is 1988 and they are all 9000 numbers.
Rick,
Make sure and get all associated paperwork, you never know what you'll end up with for records. I think RJ might be correct on the VIN# location, at least on our 01 a tag was rivited in the old A/C compartment, not sure if that is correct on yours or not.
This is an example of what it would look like 1EUDN6A19JBO90000.
Paul
Paul , here is the last one on the 70000 production list that I have,it seems to be for a 1990
1EUBN8A11LBO70444 AE15LT PROTRAV Services Inc. (CA) 1020 6/90 To ABC Bus Sales Inc. (CA) The last 5 digits for my 89 are 70287 ???
Rick check for the manuals too ;D
No manuals no paper work. Bus was repoed and nothing in it. I have to pay the bank and then I get the title. They said they drove it 6 hours and it ran as it should. Told me the spedo does not work and some lights on the dash, it is the original Eagle dash, I think. They said gen works and AC and fridge also. I live in Ocala fl. and have a friend in Whitesboro Tx. Fly into dfw monday and will look at bus tues morning. It is in Greenville Tx. Thanks again Rick
Van,
Maybe "The King of Eagles" will help us out. ;D
1EUDN6A18KBO90170 AE20 New Jersey Transit (NJ) 5618 1989
Then I find this in the 7000 series.
1EUBN8A11LBO70444 AE15LT PROTRAV Services Inc. (CA) 1020 6/90 To ABC Bus Sales Inc. (CA)
It looks like they are different depending on model, I had not studied so "My Bad"! :-[
Rick,
We'll get this sorted out one way or another. Take your camera and get lots of pictures. Are you going to get someone bus qualified to inspect it before you head out?
Paul
My 96 15/45 has the vin# stamped in the plate the compressor sits on , on the curb side right inside the engine door.
Good Luck Wayne
Same here Wayne, I wonder if our Guru has the super secret list with him ;D ;D ;D
Here is different Serial Numbers and what they were designated for. This is for Eagle Coaches produced in Brownsville, Texas.

Serial/VIN numbers were located on a plate mounted above the drivers window and in the engine compartment, as you open the engine door, look to the lower right tube just above the center bumper or stamped in the A/C compressor mounting plate on the later models.
This may all be a little confusing, but for the most part it is accurate. There were VIN numbers within the above that were never produced and there were several serial numbers that were duplicated. Too many little quirks in the system to list here. If you have questions, I will try to answer them.
All Brownsville production buses were 96 inch wide except for the Model 15's.
Dan
Dan,
That explains a lot as I was not understanding how it was handled. You might want to explain about the Eagle VIN plate that was removed when a coach conversion builder would make it their own.
It's always good talking with you, as your knowledge regarding Eagle is right on!
Paul
That's correct Paul, when a company such as Hercules or Caldwell Brothers converted these coaches, they went deep enough into them in the refurbishing/conversion process, that their states would allow them to re-title the coaches for the year they converted them and because they had manufacturing licenses in their states, they were able to assign new VIN numbers. Therefore, any old identification of serial or VIN numbers were removed and new ones installed.
I am not providing this information in any way to condemn the work of these converters; however, I feel it is important for people to know that this practice of a coach being re-titled was very common, especially with Eagle Coaches. So in this case, the 1994 Eagle Conversion may have started out as an older Eagle Coach, what year, who knows. There are different things one can look for, but it is hard to narrow it down. BUYER BEWARE! That's why these bulletin boards exist, to assist people and share information, so make sure you ask questions first and then you can make informed decisions.
Dan
Learning a lot of good info from all of you. Was going to take a buddy of mine who is a welder by trade. All I hear about is rust on Eagle frames,so I guess I should start looking there. I have owned two diesel motor homes over the last 8 years. First was a 89 Executive on a Gillig 3208 next was a safari 8.3 cummins. Allways dreamed of a buss and my own floor plan the way I like it. I guess there is a big difference between a buss like this and my other motor homes, never drove one so I hope I like it much better. If all works out I am looking forward to the project. never did any posting like this before and it shure is helpfull in making decisions. Thanks
Rick,
Send me a PM on how to contact you.
Dan
Hey Dan, thanks for the information...would be nice to store that info somewhere...let's see, I'll save it to a file and then to my hard drive...okay, mind is ona roll...gotta go.
Guys, does "Trailways Red" on the Eagle board sound familiar? Rick, I have a Hercules Coach and what Dan said is right. My Eagle is titled as an 1988 but is actually a 1972. You will most likely not find the original vin anywhere on that bus. Go to the Eagle board and read how I finally found it.
http://www.eaglesinternational.net/ (http://www.eaglesinternational.net/)
Rick,
You may hear about rust on Eagle frames, it all depends on where it spent it's life. I was very fortunate, our 68 Eagle 01 has very minimal rust. Don't get me wrong, it does have some, just not on the frame. It's mostly between the rear axle and tag, under the aluminum skin on one side. The other side had been previously repaired. Open the front electrical door on the driver side and take a peak, also maybe the framing for the bays. If it spent most of it's life in a dry climate, it shouldn't be too bad.
Good Luck,
Paul
