AJ -

Delo 400 in straight 40wt is no longer approved for use in the two-stroke Detroits, it's now a CF-4 (four-stroke) oil.

Chevron/Texaco changed it about three years ago, give or take.

OTOH, Delo 100 is still CF-2 (two-stroke) rated.  Easiest way to obtain some is to contact a fuel or oil distributor in your area and buy it by the case (6 gallon jugs), a 5 gallon pail, or a 55 gallon drum.

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

That is a very good price, way below what I have been paying for Rotella?? I think I paid $13+ at the distributor.

Time for me to contact that Irish place too!!

Delo 400 will work in a 2 stroke any C rated single weight oil will. This topic comes up often here even the C-F 4 rated 40W which the 4 stands for 4 stroke engine.
No C rated oil can contain no more than 1% ash per ASTM D874 dated OCT 2007.
All you have to do is read the jug on Delo 400 40W it states for MTU engines 1 and 2  (got my fire suit on) MTU makes the 2 stroke engine now.
I use Delo 400  40W  in my 8v92 TA now because Mobil in my area is hard to find and FWIW the new API ratings of oil will be CK in 2010 no more CF or CJ

good luck

John,  I said what I said these guys beat their self up looking for Delo 100 and there is no need too the ash is gone from C rated oils it will be 0.5 in 2010.
I spent over 10 grand for parts only on my 8v92 do you think for one minute I would take a chance on oil,a jug of Delo 400 40w will work but not the 15/40 did you know that straight 40W is not recommend for the series 60 engine

good luck

I think a sticky thread on oil would be good, we have this topic come up every two weeks or so.

Most of the questions come up with newbies who know nothing about it and are trying to learn.

It should be mandatory reading when wanting to get to know your beast! ;)

Paul, people are going to use what ever they think is best it just PO me that some think Delo 100 is the only oil it is all about marketing with Chevron and the 100 the stuff was never around till 149 series hit the market .
I won't be making any more comments about oil here

good luck

NAPA is usually where I get the Rotela 40wt. It runs about $13-$15 per gallon.
The Walmarts around here don't carry the straight 40wt.
I'll have to check the Tractor Supply store here to see what they carry and what the price is.

I drive the bus about 250-400 miles a week to and from about 4-5 gigs. Most are about 30-35 miles one way, about 60% highway. I go through about 1 gallon of oil every 1.5-2 weeks. It adds up on the running cost of the bus quickly.

WWorld overnighted in 14gals for me last week of D100 30wt. I prefer the 30 up here in the cold since that is what the PO used and he was in NV. $9.50/gal in 2 gal jugs. Now if they just carried the filters too....

I just changed the oil in my beast, used the Walmart straight SAE 40 CF2 oil, bought two five gallon buckets at $39.95 each.  Thought it was a heck of a deal.

John, I spoke with the service manager in their lube department. Turns out, he orders parts for vehicles they work on and restocks the auto department. He was very obliging when I told him I wanted the D100 and not the D400 they had on the shelf. In fact, he chuckled and said, "Huh, you must have an old Detroit." I think it helps to live in a logging community where there are still plenty of old log trucks running 2 strokes. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was for a bus. Will
