Inquiring minds want to know what changing a clutch in a 4102 or 4103 out on the road is going to involve?
OK first off I have no experience in any engine / trans work on these side ways engine GM's.
But I have been asked what I would charge to take a road trip 2 states away (about 600 miles) and replace a clutch "in an old GM, I think it is a 4102 or 4103...I can't remember." (is the exact quote)
So my question for those of you who would know is.
What is going to be involved in driving to this coach in a truck stop parking lot!
Thanks in advance ;D BK ;D

Thanks Dallas if I decide to tackle this I will get with you on the manual part. I'm not much on down loading a bunch of stuff I most likely won't use. (but then again I don't do to well on stuff I need to either LOL!)
I knew you or one of the other GM Guru's would chime up.
Any idea of a rough amount of time labor wise? I'm trying to be fair but on the other hand it is 600 miles and it's cold up north this time of yr!
;D BK ;D
this is really not my area of expertise. However fixing old stuff in general is (mostly houses etc..) pretty sure it would have to be cost + for me. Basically a sound estimate of time involved plus a caveat that if stuff starts breaking off during the job making more trips etc...necessary more $ would be necessary. Haven't done a clutch on my GM yet but I do know from the manual they are fussier than cars to set up...but then again maybe all truck/bus clutches have a whole bunch of release levers to be adjusted with feeler gages etc...(4104). Like I said not my area. Hosed myself plenty giving fixed quotes though.

What is going to be involved in driving to the parking lot of a truck stop? I'll take this step by step, first you get in the duelly, gas it up and head out, as you go you listen to the GPS and ignore all but the directions that you like, don't worry she will recalculate patiently as many times as needed lol. Eventually you'll spot a truck stop looming on the horizen and over on the side will be a broke bus, bingo, your there, see how easy that way? lol I'll run and hide now lol. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yep, I cheat, when we're up here I park the bus on the side of her driveway and enjoy all the comforts of the house, I can do that cause I own it and pay all the bills for it year round lol. I'm very surprised that this is BK's first GM clutch project lol, he owns a fleet of buses and runs a charter company, so crawling around under buses is nothing new to him, (he cheats, he's got a pit lol). We have ran in a lot of snow from time to time tho, thats not unusual for us, and yep we do have a good heater lol.
The Wife And I Sleep In Our Eagle Everynight. Hell,Its Nicer That The House !! :o
Its Really Starting To Get Cold Here In Denver At Nite. Ive Got A Furnace But It Is Acting Up. :'(. So,I Just Run The Ac Units On Heat Strip. It Works Kinda. Just Not Sure Whats Going To Happen When It Gets Real Cold Like ZERO !!! :o :o
Just Might Have To Move Someplace Thats Warm !!! Anything To Stay In The Bus :D.......
Or......... Maybe I Sould Go Buy A Thermastat. But,Thats Too Easy ;D
