Today we got to have coffee with MattC and his wife Liz. We had a really nice visit with them and hope to have a much longer visit sometime in the next few months. Just one more affirmation that bus nuts are really nice people.
They called us just as we were already in downtown Abilene. We missed seeing them but they stopped by to pick up a transfer of a bunch of Bus Conversion Magazines heading to my buddy Doug1968 in Vancouver WA. I told Matt to look them over but not to drool on the pages! ;D
We had fun meeting them at this years TBR.

When we found your bus, some young lad came by and asked if he could help us, or if we needed a spot for the night. I thanked him and told him I was just there to steal several boxes of magazines and manuals from Paul. He smiled and said; "You Can!" He's got a great sense of humor. And yes when we stopped for fuel I was rummaging through the books but Liz threw a towel on the steering wheel in time.
It was nice chatting briefly. We'll try and make enough time later to drop by and pick your brains 'bout bussin'. If not, we seriously intend to be at the next TBR, even if it's in Oklahoma. =-)
By the way, we made it to Midland and decided to stop at Midland RV park for a quiet night. I managed to mis-read the map and got the bus into a very tight spot. Some long-term guy, came out in PJ's and flip-flops and offered to help back us out. He even went as far as to wake the guy with the big Dodge Pickup that was partially blocking our retreat.
Talk bout some seriously nice people. Just a pair of joes willing to help some stranger in a bind. Could use a LOT more folks like these two guys.
BTW the site is not remote, and you can hear some freeway noise when the dogs and us are quiet, but it ain't bad and beats the blazes outta wallyworld.
Matt, when you hit I 10 at exit 49 past the rest area in Texas before El Paso there is a great steak house named Cattlemans and they have free RV parking for the night about 4 miles off I 10.
Unless you just like the Phoenix traffic take the bypass off I 10 to Gila Bend there is a nice truck stop and you can save 8 cents a gal by using the RV pump in AZ they have 2 pumps try to avoid the CA fuel it is about .50 cents higher than AZ. FWIW Quartzsite is your last place in Az for fuel 3 truck stops there and for BQ here in the west save your money and wait till you go home
good luck and drive safe
