Miley Cyrus 'Deeply Saddened' by Deadly Tour Bus Crash

DINWIDDIE, Va. — Miley Cyrus and her family have expressed their sorrow after the teen star's tour bus driver was killed Friday morning in a crash outside of Richmond, Va.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill 'Uncle Bill' Douglas," read a statement from the family posted on Miley's Web site. "Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed."
The 16-year-old Cyrus was not on board when the bus overturned around 8:15 a.m. on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie, about 40 miles south of Richmond.
Douglas, 53, of Austin, Texas, died at the scene.
Marty Zilio, 48, of Canada, was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was one of nine passengers on the bus who managed to escape through the front windshield.
The bus was part of a four-vehicle caravan heading toward Greensboro, N.C., where Cyrus is scheduled to perform on Sunday. The Hannah Montana star was not traveling with the group, which had departed Long Island, N.Y. late Thursday after a two-night stint at the Nassau Coliseum.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

From what I heard on the news, I trhink the driver's death caused the wreck rather than the wreck causing the driver's death. They said he was complaining of chest pain right before the wreck. Since most of us are older, a bit of advice from a retired paramedic. "If you have chest pain stop driving and call 911". This is much safer than trying to drive yourself or even have a spouse drive you to the hospital. The ambulance can start aggressive cardiac care as soon as they arrive and can literally be the difference between life and death BTDT (as a paramedic on the ambulance). Jack
The video said the bus rode the guard rail for 800 yards before it ran out and went into the ditch and fell over. Testament to how strongly built these buses are. Jack's words of advice are well heeded.

I have a good friend who is a Doctor, and one day commented on the temporary 'emergency' flashing light that he keeps in his car - it's the sort with the magenetic base that can be put on the car roof when needed, Starsky-and-Hutch-style. He told me he never uses it now because whenever he receives an 'emergency' call from a patient (usually chest pains), the standard procedure for Doctors is now to 'phone for an ambulance rather than attending themselves. The thinking is that even if the Doctor can get to the patient very quickly they probably wouldn't be able to do much to help without all the specialist equipment that the ambulance carries.
Worth knowing.
