Title: Old starter
Post by: John316 on November 16, 2009, 08:45:56 AM
I have the old starter, that we took off of our bus. It is dead, and doesn't work. There was no core charge on the new one, so we now have the old one too.

My question is, can we get any money from that old beast of a starter? If so, where?

Thanks a lot.

God bless,

John

Have you considered sending it for a rebuild and keeping it as a spare?

You already know it fits...

BW,

I thought about that, but really after installing the new MT 39 (I think, or whatever it is), I really don't like the idea of wrassling that big boy back in there. I think that I would just get another MT if our current one ever goes out....

The hardest part with installing those guys is the fact that all of the ECM wires run right in front of it. I had a tough time getting the old one out. The new MT was a piece of cake.

God bless,

John

Virtually all new Freightliner trucks are using the MT39.  Compared to the MT41, or 42, it is about 1/2 the weight, uses 1/2 the juice to turn over the engine, and lasts alot longer- a complete win situation.  I just wish they made a MT39 that was reverse rotation for my Vdrive.  Good Luck, TomC
