Here it is, November in the north again and once again the idea of getting the heck out of dodge before winter squashes me like a bug is running rampant. We were successful is getting the lawyers money grab stopped and are now back on the original repayment plan that the hospital had established so things are looking very good on that front, libby is weak but cranky which is a good sign, she needs surgury but it can sit for a bit as long as we monitor her blood tests carefully, meanwhile I can work a bit and try to rebuild my financial situation, we are taking a close, realistic look at what we can do and work is one of them, I'm bringing my tools south with us, as least as many of the critical tools that I can carry, I've established a low labor rate, mainly cause I'm slow and the work I do isn't very good, but thats another issue lol, I'm also bringing our DJ equipment so I can make some noise from time to time. We are hoping to be on the road as early as the first week of december so it looks like we'll be fighting the weather somewhat again but thats ok, we survived before and will do it again. The route planned is to head south to BK's make his life a little miserable then head for jacks rally and the post rally, after that and some visiting, we'll head back to tenn to make some sawdust and help BK with the conversion of what will be the new home of the charter bus company, I will have to take a few days off in febuary for a bypass surgury cause the stent I have is failing they wanted to do that this week but that wouldn't work out so I postponed it till feb 4th. Thats the plan for now lol life is good.
Jeez, Cody,
I stub my toe and cry like a baby for a week. You have the guts of ten men. Best of luck to you.
Len
Cody, don't you build cabinets? I would love to see some of your work and perhaps we could invite you to visit sunny California for a bit and get some cabinets made and help out a bit?
Thanks
Grant
Cody its really great you are going south. I do hope that a change in weather will do you both some good. Wish i could do the same but you know how it is.
Lonnie
Well grant, we do pile up sawdust, some places we pile it up a little higher than others, and thats going to be critical to our existance for a while, the rebuilding for us will take a while cause of the deep hurt the lawyers inflicted but thats ok, I'd like to see california but it's not possible this winter.
Cody, do you have any pictures of cabinets that you build? We need some made for our new conversion we are doing this next month. We live in Georgia.
Ruthi, I've got some pics here on the board in a couple of places. These are mahogany.
Thanks Cody, What would be an approx. cost of building cabinets similar to the size of those. I think we are going to make them a little less than the normal 24 inches to save of space.
Sorry, I forgot to say, (WOW), those look awesome. ;D
Ruthi, I have seen some of Cody's work in person and it is awesome. He is really talented!!
Cody & Libby;
Glad to here you both are still with us. Hang in there. Ruthi, I also have seen Cody's work up close, you will no be disappointed with his work. You might want to find some one else to apply the finish on them. LOL
Cody, You and Libby be careful in your travels.
Don
Congratulations on the legal success Cody!! I'm very happy to hear that dark cloud is lifiting. And the South is eager to have you back down here.
lol don, you have to remember that i've got a 2 stroke so that limits me somewhat to oil finishes on my cabinets, mainly CF2-40 wt lol. Ruthi, are you aware of the BYOB seminar after jacks rally? You bring your own bus and can get some personalized attention on the work you'd like done.
Cody,
Is there anything I or we can do to help you guy's.
Don
Don, now that the lawyers legal looting has been halted, at least for now, I think we're going to be ok, one thing the attorneys couldn't do was to take away my willingness or ability to work, they cleaned out everything else but we'll recover from that in time.
When and where is the rally, seminar. We couldnt bring the new bus, as we are working on it, but would like to meet yall. I dont know if that is in our cards this time, as we are trying to get the bus usable in the limited time we have to spend at home. Anyone passing this way after the 16th, thru Dec. stop by and say hi. We have elec and sewer hookups. We are getting the bodywork finished up on it now. We have a neighbor who is doing the work, and his work is awesome. It wont be apparent at first glance that it is a Dina, as some modifications are being done. We appreciate any and all imput, advice that we get from yall. I am always looking for ideas.

When and where is the rally, seminar.
The rally Cody mentioned is Jack Conrad's Bussin' 10 rally in Arcadia, December 29-Jan 1 (early arrivals ok starting Dec. 26).

The BYOB Workshop will be the following week at Jack's shop.
Here is a link to an online page about it and it is in the November issue of BCM (that is currently in the care of the USPS on its way to folks):
http://www.busconversions.com/byob.pdf (http://www.busconversions.com/byob.pdf)
It is looking probable that Sean Welsh will also be helping out as an additional instructor covering plumbing, hydronic and solar.
Important: As noted in the linked page, we have room for 12 participants only and a phone consultation with the applicable instructor must be scheduled before completing registration (feasibility check/discussion of materials and tools). So anyone interested should call soon. 863-303-4008.

And Ruthi, that fancy set of carving, right under the sink, took Cody many, many sleepless nights of work. If you ask him, he might just start slaving away ("whole lot of humping for a little bit of pay, an I'll be a dough boy by the end of the day" ;D) on one of those fancy carvings for you... ;) Aye Cody?
Cody, that is great that ya'll heading south. Good for you. Now you need to research horspitals (sp ;D) for Libby to have her surgery in. No reason to go to that same place you have been (to expensive :D). Also, that is a praise that you got the looting stopped.
God bless,
John
Cody, I can wait for quality. Perhaps I should just send you dimensions of what I need and you can give me some ideas. I would sure love to give you money in place of someone that has no appreciation for buses.
Let me know how I can help.
Thanks
Grant
One thing that I've been giving a lot of thought too lately is providing cabinet facings, doors and drawer fronts, basically the complete front that is visible as a cost saving measure for busnuts. When you stop and think about it, what a person see's is the front, if a person had reasonable time or tool skills that I think most of us do and could create the casework, or interiors of the cabinets, which is basically just a series of open boxes, a lot of money could be saved. That money could be used for upgraded components like dovetailed drawers, maybe a better grade of countertop, or even the fuel for another trip, or a heft tip to the guy that made that great cabinet front lol. I'm very interested in hearing what the thoughts are, my goal is to provide the absolute best quality for the money, custom cabinets arn't cheap, there is a lot of detail work that goes into a cabinet front that sets it apart from the knock down styles that you can buy in a box store, that all translates into money coming out of somebodys pocket, what I'm trying to do is channel that money so that a person can get the most bang for the buck. Give me your thoughts on it.
I love the idea. ;D I would be willing to give it a shot to see how well it works. I think that many folks are shocked by the cost of custom work. I know that my bid was more than the bus cost! I like the idea of getting someone with knowledge about bus cabinetry to build cabinets that will last.
Cody, would you also build these fronts so the owner could stain/finish them the way they wanted?
Do you have a series of pictures that show your various cabinet fronts and then someone could chose the style and wood?
Do you have some general idea of what a basic front would cost?
Let us know and let us see!
I am willing to be a test case!
Thanks
Grant
That sounds like a good idea. Let me know what you decide upon, and some idea as to what you can do and general cost. We are only going to have about 5 or 6 ft of cabinet. Also, let me know the time frame you are thinking of. Like I said we are trying to get it usable for the first of the year, as after that we dont get a lot of home time. :-\ Thanks, and take care.
Cody,
I would be interested in seeing some options and pricing as well.
Bryan
I was asked about dovetailed drawers, this is an example of one.
Can't buy that quality anywhere. One more reason to get Cody to build some cabinets for your bus! He knows buses and he knows quality. Thanks for the picture. Anymore?
If Cody has built your cabinets how about you post some pictures so we can admire his work.
Thanks
Grant
Cody;
Do you need another eagle to practice on. I have one sitting that you could make all the patterns you want. I might be able to show you how to apply the finish. LOL
How is libby doing. Keep us informed.
Don
Don, libby is doing ok, I'm thinking that ever since that unforunate hansel and gretal incident she might think she is bulletproof, actually she needs an arterial bypass on her kidney, it's constricted, that seems to be whats going on for now with her, of the handful of hospitals that actually do that surgury, one is the University of Michigan, but the doctor hasn't expressed any insane interest in her yet. Nothing I'd like better than another iggle to play with but my bus fund got eaten up, literally eaten up lol, I bought some groceries lol, patterns? we need patterns? next I'll be told to read the directions lol.
Here is a dinette booth roughed out, note the outlet and nitelite and one of the dinette a little further on.
A front in oak lol nope not hand carved but a very good grade of oak applique.
One of my favorite pics, Miss Libby and our sound system. All DVD audio, only thing that is mising from the pic is our lighting, we have a full light show, how much we'll be able to carry on the road is yet to be determined but we normally carry around 5000 cd's.
CDs??? You are soooo far behind. Where is your Ipod lol ;D ;D
I'm actually lightyears ahead of Ipods by using audio DVD's, the problem with an Ipod is that they compress music by removing bits of it, then to play it back it add's whatever it wants to bring the sound close, with audio DVD you have it all and it's in 6.1 surround. If you ran them both thru a meter you would find the audio DVD to outrun the Ipod by a mile.
Whheeww, Cody. That is a little to high tech for me. Maybe someday I will be that high tech, but not right now ;D.
I hope that your trip works out well for you. Have fun!
God bless,
John
Musically I'm a dinosaur, we've Djed for about 30 years, went thru vinyl, thru cassettes etc, the whole kit and kabottle, I still like the hands on control of being able to actrually control the music, I see the new generation come in and plop down their laptops with their terabyte external harddrives and then I watch them crash and mean while I still got the music going, another problem is that when your using sound active lighting programs, the sencers need to pick up the frequency to fire the strobe or the light, if it's not there or if it's not right you'll have a corn fused light, I loaned out a 10ft light bar once and it came back really needing theropy, the guy had a laptop and the lights didn't have a clue so they did nothing, kind of like me. We regularily use up to 40 lights, that includes 10 lasers if it's an outdoor venue and 12 strobes, all computerized and running thru programs. I'm FCC licensed to use up to a 50MW laser, now they have 20MW "fat" lasers that you don't even need a license to run, the world is changing but luckily I'm stuck somewhere back in the past.
Cody,
I feel that it is sometimes good to be a dinosaur. And I should know, I feel like a dinosaur most of the time. Jack
I agree jack, keeping up just for the sake of keeping up just doesn't work for me anymore, I even have a spare computer thats a pendulum 2 with 98SE that works perfectly and we use it now and then when. I perfectly happy on the sidelines avoiding the rush to get an Iphone or the latest operating system, this computer has XP and the laptop has vista but I stopped trying to figure them out long ago, I hit the go button and if it doesn't I sit down at the next computer and try that one, we have a blue ray player that flashes 12 o'clock, we replaced the VCR that flashed 12 o'clock with it.
That is funny Cody, ;D I remember having a vcr, also flashed the time. Never really figured it out to program.
"I remember having a vcr, also flashed the time. Never really figured it out to program.". Elect. tape ;D...Cable

Watch out Cody, I think Jack has taken his last five months on the road and documented it in a 35mm slide show,(talk about dinosaurs) that he is
going to make it mandatory to watch at the Arcadia Rally before you can EAT!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Sorry Jack, I still need that full hookup !!!!
