Title: 6 92 only runs on 3 cylinders, maybe a blown fuse?
Post by: bruceknee on November 07, 2009, 10:02:56 AM
What would be a good place to start looking?
I don't think it's a fuse...........

Bruce, a little more info please is the engine not running on 3 on the same side if so start looking for a pin in the fuel rod missing under the valve cover on that side.

good luck

Bruce,

Assuming it is one cylinder bank that 's not running, it depends on whether it's mechanical or DDEC.

If it's mechanical, then Clifford's suggestion is right on. A disconnected fuel control rod could be the problem.

If it's electronic then I would be checking the harness between the ecm and the injectors. There will be a separate wire for each injector, but if my memory serves there is a common ground wire. That might be where the problem is.

Remember when Ace had this problem...or sim?  There were "TWO" lines that came from the bat box that went to his DDEC.  Each line had a fuse in it and the voltage was 12Volts.  One line turned out to be intermittent in its connection.

If you have a DDEC, check the plugs on the DDEC.  One plug goes to three injectors and another goes to the other three injectors.  I spent over $1,000. to learn that lesson. I hope your problem could be so easy.

My non DDEC 6v92 rack froze and locked up the injectors on one bank.

More info
it was running on one bank only. It was the motor that was in my non running 86 102a3 when I bought it.
It has been sitting in the shop for 4 years. I pulled it out and put a rebuilt in that I purchased from Luke.
Thought I might play with it and see if it is an easy repair

Bruce;

One of the things I have had to do with DDEC plugs is to remove and clean them and apply some dielectric grease then plug them back in and that has resolved most of the problems I've encountered.

Hope this helps.
